I had put in programmable thermostats about 10 years ago, saved the old mercury Honeywell types.
Last year I pulled them and put the old ones back in, I now am a happy camper again.
I don't know how to define this in short terms, when real cold, 10 to -10 or better,
my heat is switched to a mechanical one hour timer.
It has been on that timer for 30 years I guess.
The timer comes on twice during that hour for a 8 minute cycle of which 5
of it is intermittent one minute off segments.
The air blower does not stop after heat up,
stack limit switch keeps it going until burn cycle is over and stack temp drops.
I have forced hot air for heat , the intermittent allows for the blower
to cool down the heat chamber 2 degrees while heating the house.
The temp drop is not even noticed, saves on oil by taking the
thermostat out of the system during high demand.
The house heat does fluctuate, low is 62 degrees when -10 outside outside,
I burn 1,000 gallons of fuel oil a season, and need to keep it at that level,
even more so now with this shit going on.
I hate to say it, but I remember when fuel oil was 25 Cents a gallon!
I was a little kid then and they were converting coal furnaces
over to oil burners, coal was $18.00 a ton delivered!
We use to burn two tons of coal a winter along with heat from a kitchen gas log.
A STORM IS COMING! LET'S GO BRANDON!

We pre-bought at $1.85. We hadn't been at our place but a couple of months so we over bought at 1000gals, but I did not want to run out. If we'd paid everything up front it would've been $1.75. I'm not betting that it'll actually drop in price over the summer, so I'm making sure mine is completely topped up at the end of the month before my contract is done.

I did my first load of laundry, cooked dinner and took my first shower at Mom's in 4 months.
I need to plumb the man cave with LPG from the main to use in the blue flame. PrePaid and need to use it. Saw a PIG on the roadside, should have grabbed it., but I'm AWOL as much as I can, and I'm great at it......
We're on Nat Gas here , so it'll be @ 55 there like it has since 1972, never winterized.
Oh , planting bulbs, being told how to remodel, what color to paint....
That's what's going on
