I am with ya Inor, if I am shelling out 500 bucks it better go bang. I carry a good quality auto, maybe 150 bucks worth that has lasted me going on 6 or 7 years now. They are good to have but if it comes down to a fight I am looking to the gun rather then a knife. I am to old to be dicking around with knife fights. I'll just put a bullet in ya and call it a day.

Oh, I think they're sexy as hell, growing up seeing them in movies. I collected a lot of the old ones back in the day. As an actual weapon though, they are garbage. The steel in them is terrible. It's only useful as a bayonet, because you can't get a good edge on it. I'll take a Gerber Mark II over an Italian switchblade any day of the week. And guess what? Don't even have to push a button, they're already open. Oops... did I just channel The Tourist?
I had one of those ITI jobs back in the 50s, as said, it was junk and the whole assembly was weak.

I got it from my "bad boy" cousin who was 3 years older than me.

I did not carry it or any other "fighting knife", I carried a WW2 bring back Browning 25 auto.

Today I carry a Gerber folder for utility purposes and a 45 auto for defense.

Those things are outlawed in this state have been since I was a kid.

I seem to always have one on my list to get and after getting it I say I'm all done now, until I see something else of course, I also have one I've been eyeing for a long time, Buck 110 Auto, I'm one of those guys who always think there's a better deal out there and will wait, I've been waiting a long time because I'm sure I'll find a good deal one day, and I'm still waiting.....

He went there to play sidewalk commando.

Remember he was a bikie with colors.

Very early on I challenged him and one of his statements.

He was being a smart ass, said there had never been a German "U" boat on the great lakes.

I told him his history was faulty, U505 was on the lakes and resides now in the "City Of Industry" museum.

They built a building around the boat!

The escort carrier and her hunter killer group caught her submerged off the Azores,

The sub was hit with a new anti sub depth charge, a Hedge Hog, forcing her to the surface, half sunk.

A boarding party took over the boat and one US officer went in and closed the scuttle, preventing it from sinking.

It was a treasure trove of code books and and an Enigma cypher machine.

When I gave him the history lesson, he said "oh, yeah, I now remember, my dad took me to see the sub".

That is an indicator of memory problems, who in the hell would not remember a trip like that!

OK, I admit I do not remember the commissioning of the battleship Massachusetts in 1942, I was there.

I was also on it while it was being built.

Not long after commissioning, she pounded the Jean Bart in the Casablanca invasion of operation Torch November 1942.

    Rant off.

You would get about 10 years here just for the possession of one of those.

They are a bitch here on knives with the laws they made in the early 50's.

All the sidewalk commandoes and James Dean wannabee's carried switchblade knives, a lot were frisked and jailed for possession.

I never looked or played that kind of part, never got stopped for anything.

Today, nothing would happen to me for carrying a full auto mini Uzi, loaded under my coat,

but have an automatic knife, dirk or dagger with it, it would be jail time.

I have been looking at that one pretty closely too. That is probably what I'll end up buying as they are a little more down to earth price-wise. They have a nice one with black scales and brushed stainless hardware. It is a damn sharp looking knife (pun intended). But then, so is the traditional wood scales with brass...

I could not live somewhere I could not carry whatever knife I want. That is absolutely ridiculous.

I am stuck here, no doubt about it either.

I should have moved when I had a chance to 35 years ago, oh well.

Yeah, those old ones are junk... but highly collectable and worth some $$$. The newer ones being made by outfits like Benchmade or MicroTech are quite stout, and actually have high quality steel in the blade.

Funny about different state laws. The Federal law banned their import, and the transferring across state lines in the Switchblade act of 1958. We got around that by following one of the exceptions in the act: being "bona fide" dealers to law enforcement and military personnel, units, departments, and agencies. We required a photocopy agency, military, or department ID.

I used to do the Oregon Knife show every year for about 15 years. Around 1994 or so, I Had a treasury agent once look up and down my two 8 foot tables of switchblades with a scowl. Wanted to know the source of my products. I had to remind him once they are in Oregon, they're perfectly legal. And that I bought all my knives from customers who walked through to sell at various gun shows over the years... right here in Oregon as well. And that we were manufacturing one too. He was extremely agitated that he could not bust me.

I was chatting with my friends Al Mar (R.I.P. buddy, you made awesome knives) and Denny Hansen when he approached. Denny was the editor of S.W.A.T. Magazine back then, and showed the agent the new issue with my knife on the cover... and my feature story about sales to Law Enforcement in another issue a few months previous. He stormed off fuming.

Similar things would occur at the Soldier of Fortune show in Vegas every year. Agents there surrounded by all sorts of class III weapons, and their panties all in a twist over switchblades LOL.

The individual states made their own crazy laws. Here in Oregon, you can manufacture them, buy them, sell them, and collect them... just not carry it LOL.
