Marine OB gas cans

I got these, free two Evinude 6-gal tanks 1/2 and 1 full. Gas will be used on brush piles soon, big as a small house, and growing....there will be pictures....then cookout....


Question. Nice sealed no rust metal tanks. Anybody make a spout? These will be srtorage for "good" gasoline.

Had to laugh . . . the one on the left side . . . by the saw . . . that says GAS on it . . .

A friend had one just like it.

She used it to fill up her lawn mower but it still had some in it when she sat it down.

It was late in the afternoon of a really hot summer day.

She screwed the cap back on the spout . . . apparently pretty tight.

Next morning she got up . . . went out . . . there was her can . . . overnight it had gotten pretty cold . . . and atmospheric pressure had collapsed the thing . . . looked like someone had taken a Louisville slugger to it.

Sad part was . . . she paid some really good money for it . . . and it was only a week or two old.

Coleman’s has a purpose built nozzle that fits their small mouth German jerry cans. This thing works like a charm, unlike all those stupid shit Californian compliant gas can nozzles that come on American gas cans.

You can get a marine fuel line with the built-in primer bulb and use it to siphon gas out of the outboard motor fuel cans. The fuel lines are expensive, and the siphon process is slow. But it works and is not messy. Get the ‘larger’ 3/8” fuel line. I’m speaking from experience. And stay away from the cheap bulbs and fuel lines available on Amazon. They don’t work for shit. Bite the bullet and pay for the OEM fuel lines from a quality marine supplier. Again, from my experience.

I siphon the gas out.

A regular plastic 5 gallon can works fine. Insert a long 1" clear plastic hose into gas gan along with a 1' piece of 3/4" hose. Seal the remaining opening with rag you are cleaning gas up with.

Blow into short hose and watch the gas flow out of the can into the long hose.

It worked great while fueling up the in marina under the watchful eyes of the HarborMaster, and no spills in the water..

Thanks for the ideas. The cans in question were the ones for OB motors, not the 2 1/2-gal metal or the 5-gal plastic on the left. That is the two in the middle. Not an easy way to pour from them.

Most of the stuff is leftovers from an estate sale and were free. Besides the OB motor gas tanks: the small 2 1/2-gal metal gas can, some decent old tools Disston saw Smith-Simmons loppers hedger trimmer mics small stuff all USA made, really nice old kerosene lamp, some old quality kitchen utensils, a bunch of bushel baskets, and an unused hand meat grinder.

I might have an old marine fuel line with primer bulb, I'd not thought of that. Thanks @Chiefster23

@BucketBack your siphon method is nice as it avoids getting gas in your mouth. I'm thinking a variation on that with the existing fuel lines might work. Put a long one on one hose, and a shorter one to blow into and prime the siphon.
