My cold weather split pea soup.

The weather has finally cooled down so I am going to make my favorite split pea soup.
When ever we have a ham I take the leftovers, cut them up and freeze for just this reason.
Of course all my measurements are a give a little , take a little, never exact.

    7 cups of water.
1 pound of dried peas or store bought split peas.
    1 teaspoon sea salt.
    1/4 teaspoon pepper.
3-4 medium carrots cut into 1/4 inch slices.
2-3 stalks of celery finely chopped.
    1 medium onion chopped.
1 ham bone, or 3 pounds of ham shank, or 2 pounds of smoked pork hocks , or as I do use leftover ham.

    Directions
Mix all ingredients except ham in slow cooker then add the ham on top.
cover and cook on low heat for 10 hours. or until peas are tender.
remove meat from cooker and remove meat from bones.
stir ham back into the soup.
    ENJOY.

Pea soup, bean soup... perfect this time of year.

Not so perfect for the people around me about 2 or 3 hours later! P.U.!
