Used to wear a version of those for ice fishing when there was no snow on the ice.

I did not have skies on my plane, but I did land it on the lake out front one winter, ice was a foot thick, came in and had lunch, then took off again.
I did ferry one that had pontoons, though I took off and landed on runways not water.

I have been traveling this once great republic about 40-45 weeks per year for the last 17 years. When I first started doing all this business travel, before the internet was ubiquitous, I would go down to the Deep South and tell them we had skis on the planes and the lakes stayed frozen all year and a lot of them would believe me.

I'll never forget the reaction of a couple of native Texans when I told them about ice fishing. They thought I was absolutely mad!

That landing happened one of those rare years where like this past winter, almost no snow and the lake was devoid of any and crystal clear.
Taxied right up to the shore line, a hundred feet from the front door.
Southerners who have never been here in the winter, have no idea and nothing to relate to.
When I was in AIT at Ft. Jackson during the winter, those southern boys showed us how they drove with a half inch of snow and ice on the roadways.
The road down tank hill was a demo derby of deuce and a halfs and jeeps, I laughed my ass off for an hour watching them.
