    The first hole

Set my caliper at .775 and slid it across the bottom & scratched the paint -- then measured the width - halved - set at 5/8th. - laid it on its side near the edge of my desk - and scratched a line -- double checked both -- purr-fect --

Dressed up my center punch to a perfect point -- put on my magnifier head strap & dimpled dead center --

Cross leveled the receiver in my drill press vice & with a 1/4" bit - took my time squared every thing up -- made the first hole --

And bingo I even used my good eye --

Before I use this vice again -- its going to a local shop so they can mill the bottom parallel with the top of the jaws -- it rocks when I press on it !

This hole is OK - kinda -- the next one needs to be better -- I just might drill it by hand ?

Rice, I have ZERO knowledge of gunsmithing, but can say that looks great.
What is the hole in the back of the receiver for?

I'm not a big fan of the bore snakes -- jamming a cleaning rod down the barrel - theres always a chance of screwing up the bolt face or the ejector hook --- removing the barrel theres a risk of stripping out the barrel retaining bolts w/ repeated removal --

Sooooo -- the hole is for the cleaning rod -- push all the crap out away the receiver --

Being a life long member of -- "I rather fix it myself" club --

    This happened yesterday --

I can live with it -- but the next hole needs to be somewhere centered --

The bottom of the vice looked like a potato chip -- so I thought before I take it to be surface milled -- y-knot ?

    I gotta get a fresh belt - but its 75 % better already --

And the top looks a little better --
