Chambered in 9mm for proven stopping power, the M&P SHIELD features a high-strength polymer frame with a black, durable, corrosion resistant finish, coated stainless steel slide and barrel. Standard with a 3.1-inch barrel, which contributes to an overall length of 6.1 inches and an unloaded weight of 19 ounces. None of my pistols have safeties beyond the G-Lock safe trigger shoe

Those of you who are worried about the safety on a Shield, probably have never handled one. There is no way in hell anyone is going to inadvertently set the safety when drawing the gun. First of all, it is too recessed to be caught by anything. Secondly it is very stiff to set and to release. You have to work hard at it for both operations.

Finally, if I am going to have a round chambered on a pistol (either striker-fired or hammer fired), my preference is going to be to have a safety. The only exception is if the hammer-fired pistol has a DA/SA trigger along with a decocker.
