The sad part is this all done by design. These corporations want people dependent upon them. It is the same thing with newer cars as most independent mechanics cannot afford to have diagnostic equipment from each individual automaker.

Cars are the same way. Some have multiple computers the talk to each other and when one gets mad, it's a no go anywhere situation! I worked on them for over 30 years and saw the change from simple to complex and if you wanted to learn it you could but many just refused and are now just parts changers. Some of the stuff has been good, such as fuel injection because cars start right up all the time and the choke has been eliminated and fuel economy has improved, and transmissions work better, but rain sensing wind shield wipers? Gimme a break!
