I have for sale a handmade chopping board made from bamboo and ash.
The inside plank is ash and the outside is strips of flattened bamboo. Took a few hours to do (excluding the glueing time). As times are hard I'm looking for £10 British plus postage.

I made myself one and it works like a charm. I may make a few more as it is hard wearing (I used a meat cleaver on it and it hardly made a dent or scratch).

About $16.50 plus whatever postage.
I'm happy to make more if you're interested :-)

sending pictures to my wife now. i know we need a new cutting board but it might have to wait a week or so

Cool well I can make a few more if anyone else is interested. I get the centre wood from my neighbour so I can guarantee the bamboo but the centre could be anything from Oak to ash to alder to birch...so it's a pot luck.

let me work out postage and I will get back with finalised pricing for you guys! :)

ok, postage for a 10-14 day delivery is £15 for it, so all in it is £25 British (or $40 rounded down to nearest $10).
If that is acceptable, I will start making tomorrow afternoon when I have some time on my hands.

definitely. assuming you do paypal?

I do indeed do paypal. If you allow until Friday when it is physically made (well I will make a few...even if you change your mind by that point I will have a spare). I can then get it packaged and ready to send if that is acceptable for you?

Ok well I will flatten the bamboo when the kids are in bed. I get the centre pieces of wood from my neighbour so could be oak, ash, maple, birch, Elm, alder, yew, sycamore or hazel...depends on him as he is a forester.

does the core really make a difference? i mean, those are all hard woods arent they? i would imagine that would be the biggest difference if it was hard or soft...but i don't know much or else i'd probably make my own lol

Well the difference really is in the colouring. Lol. It would take a while to go through to the centre. I've cleaved meat, sliced meat, chopped vegetables, scrapped and scratched from the slicing, and brushed it with a butcher scrubbing brush and it's barely made a scratch to the surface.
I cannot oil it however as it won't be shipped as it classes as hazardous to the royal mail (which is a pain) but will get it made for Friday.
I shape the centre piece with my axe also, then use my draw knife when it's all glued and give a quick sand down. Any final touches are down to whoever.
If I didn't sell my soldering iron I would burn in some designs as well.

So you'll take one as well Deebo? No worries, will get that sorted for you also. I will see if I can get it sent through work as it may be cheaper on postage (no guarantee)

Wonder if & how much the VAT charge in the USA is?

what's a VAT charge?

It's some kind of export/import tax from some countries.

hmm...i had a guy make a shirt for me a while back. $20 for the shirt but after shipping and everything it was close to 40ish...the taxes could have been applied to the shipping cost maybe?

I bought a DSLR camera directly from Taiwan a few years ago. About 3 months after it arrived I got a bill from the USA for a VAT tax around $50.00. The seller knew it was coming & issued a credit to my card to cover it.

Hmm...I wouldn't have thought there would be a VAT charge on something which could be seen as a "gift"? Its value isn't massive, so I don't know.

According to this there is a 0% import tax...

What are the dimensions of the board?
nephilim
09-28-2014, 11:05 AM
Roughly 14in by 10in by 3/4in or so. This is a rough measurement as I do it all by eye.
Edit
Fixed spelling which my phone ****ed up.

Happy days :-) not bad shipping...4 days. Lol. I'm currently engraving one for my friends wedding. I'll post up the results when done. It's taken me ages as it's being done by hand.

All I can add, is that Neph did what he said he'd do. No problems with PayPal, and international shipping was all taken care of by him.
