Meat – rich in protein, fats, iron, energy and other essential nutrients – is a useful and tasty addition to your survival food reserves. The problem is it’s also highly perishable. Without refrigeration, fresh meat will stay safe to eat for a matter of days at most. If you freeze it you can store it for up to a couple of years, but are you going to be able to keep things frozen after the SHTF? That’s not something I personally would want to rely on. What’s needed is some kind of meat that can be stored for months or years without refrigeration.

People have been figuring out ways to store meat for centuries, and there are a lot of different solutions out there. Sailing ships carried barrels of salt beef and pork; some of the earliest canned goods were whole roast chickens. Many forms of storable meat have been developed, although some of them haven’t been much fun to eat (sailors used to carve small ornaments from especially hard chunks of salt beef).

Preppers have an obvious interest in meat that can be stored, and there are a few items that tend to be popular. Some are commercial products; others are home made. Both have plenty of fans among preppers,

Don't forget the beenie-weenies, . . . lots of good tasting protein there.

They are especially good on a plate with a side of green onion / garlic potato chips.

Pour a couple cans on a plate or platter, . . . grab some chips and a big cup of coffee, . . . turn on the tube, . . . watch Ohio State knuckle Michigan for the 40-eleventh straight year.

Don't get much better than that.

May God bless,
Dwight

Adding anything to spam is just putting lipstick on a pig, . . .

It's still a pig, . . . and a slimy, greasy, smelly, pukey, pig at that.

Kinda like putting pearls on Hillary.

May God bless,
Dwight

I have always enjoyed spam I keep a couple dozen cans in the house and not just as emergency food. Fried spam sandwiches, spam and cheese omelette, diced up with scrambled eggs with a little salsa for zing, and even in my fried rice. Mmmmmm

I agree. Spam is good eatin'. You don't get no better than thin sliced Spam, fried in maple syrup served on heavily buttered rye toast slathered with either yellow mustard or cream cheese. Oh yeah, livin' large!

That's the point. Spam is pig. And pig is good, especially when it is fermented in chemicals for several months!

I prefer my food without the turpentine, . . . but then again, . . . just my choice. And turpentine does keep down the hatching rate of the weevils.

One question;

Do muslimes eat SPAM?

Of course not silly...

All the more reason to enjoy some SPAM!

(SPAM Hash browned potatoes; cube SPAM and Potatoes and fry in cast iron skillet with butter. Add sweet onions, jalapenos or any other pepper. Top with fried egg and enjoy on a Saturday morning with a Bloody Mary! MMM MMM GOOD)

I’m basically lazy, so I simply open the can-o-Spam, thick slice it, and slap it between two pieces of white bread.
Dry - no mustard, mayo or even butter.
Man, I love Spam.
I remember in Nam the Spam came in OD Green cans about 3 inches square and 18 inches or 2 feet long.
Nothing finer than Spam canned during the Korean War being eaten 15 years later.

lets see...pemmican?...saps all moisture from you body in an attempt to rehydrate to shoe leather consistency withe added benefit of leaving mor meat between yur teeth than into your stomach nd also will wear out your jaw chewing on it.....

Or Spam....semi damp meat with toe jam congealed around it giving it a packed with fresh loogies look. has the cook ability of bologna and passes through your body in an expressed train fashion leading one to believe your throat is directly connected to your rectum....

Pemmican will last longer...spam will actually make you want to eat less. You can use a spam can to heat it up it you want and eat from it, but your probably going to slice a wrist doing it.

ehhh i'm 50/50 on this one folks.

Well I tell you that I prefer spam to any and all current MRE entres and do have it around, but its more of a last resort to remind me when to go shopping..."ah ****, nothing but spam left...better hit Food Lion"...

I hear if you dry it over a few days it'll burn like lighter knot wood....(sap infused pine wood).....

Thats one of my concerns with the Wifey -- she refuses to eat it --- so every so often I duct tape her to a lawn chair & force feed her 1/2 a can --

when you hungry must food starts to look good, when starving all food looks good
but I did say its good when its charred from a fire when camping

my theory why I don't like spam or even chef boride or how the hell you spell that stuff is most likely because I was raised not having it
that was all to costly for my poor family
ill take a fried baloney sandwich with extra fried onions and a runny egg

like to note for no reason and hijack this thread, my 13 year old is loving the liver and fried onion sandwich and wanted that over hot pocket

ok you can have thread back
