Elections right around the corner, many issues for our country loom.

So, here it is, another mid-term about to come with Obama still in the white house. I thought for sure Mitt would take the white house after last mid-term but it seems like he couldn't get his base out to vote for him.
I read that he lost the election by 72,000 votes or something close to that. Which is nothing considering we have 300 million people in this country.

With the mid-terms coming and everything up in the air this past year I started stockpiling a little bit more of the things these liberal leaders don't think americans need for sporting events. I didn't necessarily see a clear victor for the mid-terms but, in the past couple of weeks I have noticed some shifts and have started to make the assumption that the republicans may take the senate. That doesn't mean much except the people who typically vote for "progressives" have a short attention span and don't show up for midterms.

I think also the reality is that with the current administration's ego, the law and who controls congress means nothing as the O has a phone and a pen.

Currently, around the world, I see the ISIS situation, ebola situation, daily increase in small terrorist attacks in the US and now canada, the economic shifts, as well as other things occurring daily as red flags that, even a republican senate may not help. Lets face it, the republicans aren't exactly wonderful, trustful people either. The great Reagan took away our right to purchase new machine guns. When Bush Jr. let the Brady bill expire that was the first time I can recall the people getting back gun rights that were taken away. And locally Gov. Nathan Deal signed a fairly comprehensive gun bill in GA that gave back freedoms to our GA citizens.

I hope for the best for our country. I have spent the past several months trying to stock up for the potential of more federal gun regulations, which I believe would be renewed if the Dems got their way on November 4th. Lets hope these polls are right and we can get a 2 year break from these awful spending policies and tax regulations this administration loves.

Like I have said, I have been trying to stock up recently on items that the government will target if Obama or Hillary see the opportunity. Also I have been working to turn my BOL into a homestead. I have spent 4 years (the time I have had the land) clearing the land, building the soil, getting the well and septic systems up, building a barn, planting fruit trees, grapevines and other plants. I plan to build a house with cash I have been saving as well. I want to live there as a homesteader rather than have it as a BOL. My goal is to have it finished within 2 years. A lofty goal, but I feel with proper planning it is more than realistic.

I feel I have always been a survivalist, even as a high schooler I would hit up the gun and knife shows, boy scouts, survivalism courses and read lots of books, got some supplies together for Y2K learned trapping and hunting very young, hell I trap animals for a living, every day of every week for the past 14 years I have been trapping animals and thats how I pay my bills. But, after Obama got elected I really got nervous with the government bail out of the bankers and "cash for clunkers" which I think was a very socialist program that screwed lots of hard working auto dealers.

That started a whole new approach to my prepping and this past year has really made me re-think whats been going on and how to better prepare myself for whatever obama is able to dish out. It makes me nervous when our president releases terrorists in order to get back a traitor (theres already reports those released from gitmo are fighting with ISIS). Wont enlist a travel ban for the ebola affected region, tells governors of states they have no right (I feel certain they do, do politicians even read the constitution anymore?), looks at illegal aliens as more voters for his agenda, throws our hard earned dollars at problems that aren't ours in other countries. The list goes on and on.

So thats pretty much my rant, I am just wonder what others are doing and have done, specifically pertaining to the coming mid-term elections. And who here sees a light at the end of the tunnel? I think these next two years could be very bad years for the US I just hope I am wrong.

I'm hoping it lasts until I can at least get to where you are now lol. I need to start doing some work with my soil. I would love to homestead but don't know nearly enough in any aspect of the word. I do still think everything can work out and if it doesn't, I think there is still time but it seems like time drastically shortens the closer it gets.

While I think the Republicans are on the right side of the fence more than any other they still leave a lot to be desired by a long shot. There are some stars in the party but far too many old dogs who are just straight up political whores. I don't see much changing even if they can secure both houses. But I di think its better to get them in power and then look at changing the party from with in to something I can better stomach. Something more in line with what our founding fathers intended. Its a road that's is not easy to walk or a short walk but its one I think we need to make. You just have to keep telling yourself that wars are won through many small battles and not just one big win.

Like you I have always been a survivalist and I have always followed that mind set to one degree or another all my life. These days I don't see a bright future and I have been in over drive trying to put myself in a much better position to weather what ever storm may approach.

I too have been looking at the future really hard. Every dime I have after the bills are paid has been getting put towards reducing the last bit of debt I have making me less dependent on a job and what funds don't get allocated to that end gets dumped into preps. Right now that means buying a lot of ammunition now that its back in stock and building my stash. It also means buying a lot of primers and powder. I have been snatching up range brass and scrap lead like there aint no tomorrow.

I am also investing a lot of time and effort into being more sustainable. The less dependent I am on the markets and the better I can provide for myself the better position I think I can put myself in. Regardless of what happens in the mid terms or who gets elected, I am planting some more fruit trees come spring. This winter I will be adding another raised bed to the BYFPC (Back Yard Food Production Complex as I affectionately refer to it as...). The more Scooby Snacks I can grow the less dependent I am on food supplies that the masses compete for and the less affected I am by rising food prices and the less income I need to earn to make it through another week. I place a much higher value in that strategy as opposed to just hording a bunch of goodies in the pantry. It takes a lot less storage space too!

I have got a few other "investment projects" planned but those are the short term ones. As things progress and events unfold I will likely be making some priority changes as needed along the way.

All I can tell you is don't wait or hesitate, get moving before they raise the parking rates! Time is getting shorter I am sure of that. I look back now at the past and wished I would have procrastinated a lot less and not put off for tomorrow what I can do today. 40 years into this and I find myself scrambling a bit too!

I don't have a lot of ground to play with, but you would be surprised at what you can do with a little bit of space. I got a small 30x120ft lot that's lake front and you would be surprised at what you can do there my friend even with that little bit despite having to dodge code enforcement for the city. I have found that it takes 2-3 or more years to really get your soil in tip top shape so that you can maximize your production. I have three small raised beds and grow about half of the fruits and veggies I eat year round! The lake is full of fish and I have done a lot to concentrate those fish in honey holes I have put together over the last few years. I have sank a lot of Crappie Condos and if need be some are large enough and established enough if I had to, I could put some fish on the table daily. Unless your a educated hardcore fisherman with some good electronics...your not going to find my honey holes! I got a small meat rabbit production going too and that helps a lot as well and its a very compact space saving operation.

You don't have to know a lot. You do have to learn a little bit at a time and start a new project periodically. After a while it all comes together for you. The journey of a thousand miles starts with only a first step being taken...

I'm right there with you Herr Cuomo has to go and hopefully we can throw him out on his ear. I know the polls are still saying he's in the lead but I have to wonder who they're polling since the entire upstate region despises him. Maybe the pollsters can't leave the 212 area code. I think they've greatly underestimated Astorino, hopefully that will be their undoing.

As far as doing anything extra goes, I haven't been. I'm not in a position to stockpile anything extra. I don't really consider myself a prepper since I'm not stocking anything other than knowledge and skills. If the SHTF I'm gonna be in trouble but due to storage and financial limitations it's just not possible for me to really get into prepping. I got enough to do just to keep the bills paid and food on the table, sign of the times I guess.

I voted for the libertarian candidates on both our senate and representative races, I know I am probably throwing my vote away but screw it, neither party represents what I believe anymore and realistically they both want the same thing so I am voting my decent of the 2 party system.

Well it's official, NY state is doomed. There is no hope for New York, these people disgust me. Cuomo will be here at least another 4 years. Guess I better start getting my shit together so I can jump ship when I retire. These people will never learn, this guy has done nothing but cost people jobs and take their freedoms and yet they still vote for him. I realized recently that my vote doesn't matter. My district is solid republican, and my congressman gets a B from the Conservative Review. He won reelection with 70% of the vote. I wonder if there was anyone in the country with a bigger percentage? The rest of the state varies from Conservative to complete wacko socialists. I don't have any sway in all that. 5 dems 4 reps from my state. Crazy. Both my Senators are reps and receive a big fat F from Conservative revue. They aren't conservative at all. Ive got no use for reps any more. But these decisions are made in the cities. The evil outcome of the 17th amendment. Basically gave the democratic socialists the advantage and nobody realizes it.
Nationally, I don't really see anything good happening with McConnell winning his race. He will wind up majority leader and he has already come out and said he isn't going to do what needs to be done to right the ship. So the country will continue to sink under his "leadership".
Whats all this mean? Continue to get things ready for what is to come because this govt. doesn't have the will to save this sinking ship.The continued expansion of govt. continued spending continued erosion of liberty and freedom continued attacks on conservatives. In fact govt may truly become more evil under the guise of republicans because "mainstream" republicans will be more accepting of it coming from republi....cons.
The country has already been destroyed, it just hasn't become apparent yet. Evil is already in control.

The country has been on a downturn since Reagan left, and only Clinton managed to do something to fix it (or at least get the country out of the deficit). Under his watch the US grew back into an industrial powerhouse, but he was a dick and signed off on banking regulations that would cripple the US in the long term. Bush then got the short end of the stick and starting 2 wars (1 of which should never have been done (IRAQ) as the country even if they had WMDs would not have had the ability to even fire them to Africa, nevermind Europe or East Asia or USA), and as such set the budget into a cluster****. The kicker of that was that the US government became heavily reliant on foreign loans and now China and Saudi Arabia own over 50% of the US through loans.

Second cluster **** of the country was the banks (See what I said about Clinton) who thanks to his legislation removal, allowed the banks to approve mortgages and loans to people who would never be able to afford the payback unless they had some sort of miracle, and long term ended up with both people and banks defaulting on their payments and thus foreclosing many peoples properties and then selling them off cheap to try to recoup losses.

Third cluster **** was Bush encouraging the exportation of a large portion of manufacturing to Asia (India and China) and thus making cities like Detroit a bad place to be.

The net result is Obama coming in, with his wishy washy policies, and trying to make the US like Europe and try to do it quickly (which was a hugely bad idea). The process should have been a gradual one if at all, and we now have the position where we are today. Republicans controlling the house whilst the democrats control the presidency. Nothing will get passed that the Dems want, and the president will veto what the repubs want, and the country will grind to a stand still in the long term and the every day person will end up suffering.

Well, once again the liberals in Pierce, King and Snohomish Counties have passed bad legislation for the entire state of Washington.
Initiative 594 made it illegal to transfer a gun without going through a background check first.

This means that if you and I are out at the range and I hand you one of my guns to try out we are both felons. According to the law I have just "transfered" a gun and you have accepted it without undergoing a background check.

This law is not only a breach of the second and fourth amendments but it is completely unenforceable. In order to know if a gun has been transferred the government has to know who owns what. They don't have that information and it is illegal for them to have the information. So, how will they enforce it?

I, for one, will ignore this unlawful action as well as any law that requires me to register any of my property.
We have a right to ignore unlawful acts and I will exercise that right as well as all the others.

No, there is no registration and it is against state law to require registration of any guns in Washington state.
There is simply no way to enforce this new law and it is my hope that in the coming years it will be repealed due to the infringement of fourth and second amendment rights.

I can do with my property as I please - so long as it endangers no one. I don't typically sell guns but I will buy them and private sales are the best way to get good guns at good prices.

Since criminals don't buy their guns through dealers, this legislation (that was put in place by the voters in just three counties) offers no security except to the criminals. It raises the cost of buying guns from private individuals only to make those in big cities feel safer. It is an affront to the freedom of others.
