DURO MAX Duel Fuel XP4400EH 4400 WATT Generator Review

Mostly because of my hatred for the Ethanol Gas Scam that the government has been playing on us (at the expense of our earned wealth) I decided to get a small/medium sized generator that runs on both gasoline and Liquefied Petroleum Gas aka Propane! For no reason other than I was sick of researching all of the generators that are out there, I decided upon the Duro Max 4400 Watt Generator.

The generator arrived in 3 days and it was packaged very well with no damage. All of the parts were included in separate bags and marked well. The assembly instructions (for the wheels and handles) were OK but it ain't rocket science so within a few minutes I had everything put together and tight.

I filled it up with oil, attached a 20lb propane tank and connected the battery for the electronic start. It started on the second turn of the switch and after adjusting the choke, it began to purr quietly and consistent. Not to loud. I hooked up the 240v extension cord with two 120 splits, and connected to to a fan and a power drill in my shop. No problems. Then I hooked up a 3rd cord to the 120v and ran another power tool.

I'll do some more testing this weekend and maybe build a larger "Cart" to move it around and give it a go! And I plan on running some ethanol-free gas too to test that.

SWEET. I love it.
I have to do some research, as my heater is upstairs. It has only one 110 plug, so I guess I could use my small genny for the house heat?
Also, I would only have to charge the fridge and freezers for a few hours, so i think I'm OK on the portable generator situation right now.

Been saving and looking at the larger Whole House Generators 10K+ but I needed something mid sized too. I don't have natural gas and I will have to get a larger propane tank to run the 10K.

It'd be nice to have a small generator with an inverter for NASCAR camping and Firepit lights.

I have an older Honda 2,200 generator. It works fine, but it's noisy. I run nothing but ethanol free gas in all my small engines now. I still haven't figured out how they can charge MORE for gasoline with no ethanol and fewer additives. Just because the greedy bastards can I guess.

All I can figure is the government uses our tax dollars to "lower" the price of ethanol gas while paying farmers to produce substandard food and then pay someone else (with our tax dollars) to use good fuel and convert food to bad fuel.

It is so messed up I have no other explanation.

I switched back to old style nozzles and drilled for capped vents in my gas cans right after that stupid EPA law about gas cans went into effect. For good measure I went and removed all the tags from my mattresses as well.

I am also looking forward to future reports on it. I HAVE to get some kind of generator, most likely propane, but I really like your hybrid option! We got by during the house build with minimal electricity just fine. But the one thing that scares the hell out of me is not having power for our well. If we lose power, we also lose water and I only keep 1550 gallons above ground.

A huge Squall Line of Thunderstorms was on the radar yesterday expected to arrive at Slippy Lodge late morning or early afternoon so I was PUMPED.

Grabbed a full LP Gas tank, moved the Duro Max Dual Fuel XP4400EH to the back covered porch with some 10 Gauge Heavy Duty Extension cords and battened down the hatches waiting on the storm.

And the storm came through with a vengeance! There was less than 1 hour of rain but about 45 minutes into the storm, the power went out.

The Generator powered up within seconds of pressing the Electric Starter and I was in business. Hooked up the 120V Cord and ran it to the 2nd Refrigerator in our Laundry/Pantry that holds all of Mrs Slippy's Insulin (She is a Type 1 Childhood Onset Diabetic) Fridge started running like a top.

Hooked up the 240V Extension Cord w/ two 120V Splits to the 120/240V 30 Amp Outlet and ran one split to our main refrigerator in the kitchen. Ran the second 120V split to a multi-outlet Surge Protector that was hooked up to our Satelite Internet, Direct TV & TV (So I could watch the NFL Playoffs), an Oscillating Fan (It was 70 degrees in January! WTF?), and finally a lamp that has LED Bulbs.

The back porch is right off of our main living area and it was not quiet, but not loud either. Since I ran the extension cords through a window, I wrapped the cords in an old towel and closed the window as much as I could without crimping the cords and stuffed an old towell in the open part of the window and that reduced noise wonderfully.

The Generator has a Meter to let you know where you stand on power and so far we were no where close to maxing out the 4100 Peak Watts or the 3300 Running Watts so I hooked up another extension cord to the 120V 20 Amp GVCI Outlet on the Generator and hooked up some more lights in the house.

I had extension cords running everywhere and we were living large! I ran the generator for approx 9 hours and to the best that I could determine, the Propane tank was about 1/4 Full.

I am no expert and I do not have a full understanding of the Watts/Volts/Amps thing but I have a general idea what you can run and what you cannot having owned and used smaller generators over the years. I know now that I can load up a few more appliances and should be good to go.

I did not run any gas in the generator and while I do store some Ethanol Free Gas for my 4 Wheelers/Power Tools/Chainsaw etc I hope to never run any gas in this generator ever.

I'd give the Duro Max XP400EH Dual Fuel 4400 Watt Generator a solid 8.5 out of 10. Noise was still a bit high and it is heavy at 130 lbs. It has wheels and some handles but it was a bit clunky to manuever around up a few stairs etc without some help.

I bought a 8500 KW dual fuel gen set and love it. It will run everything except the Central Air units. (I have portable ac units to make up for that) I have only run mine on propane so far. You give up a little power generation but propane so much more easier to work with then gas. It's cleaner and safer to store and will set for years without having to mix additives and rotate like you would with gas. I start mine up twice year, once before Hurricane season and once in December or January.

Duel fuel is the way to go.

A few years ago we went for over a week with no power due to a massive ice storm. Had extension cords from the generator everywhere. Since then I've added a 220v plug into the line that feeds the well pump. Now all I have to do is throw the main at the power pole and plug the generator in at the well house. Fire it up and it lights up the whole house. It's just a 6500w gen so we have to make sure the AC is turned off.

YOUR A BADASS. I can only say, make yourself a easy way to run the cords through that window and get down.
Oh, and since you haven't put gas in it, does it has rubber and silicone gaskets, that will get brittle in the carbs?
I love the fact that propane never goes bad in a cylinder.
January and running a fan? You dirty dog. I'm chewing my fingernails waiting on the propane bill I expect it to be $340 or so..
