‘We’re going to get through this,' says Gov. Whitmer as she orders K-12 schools closed over coronavirus

Parents will have to cancel work to stay home with their kids. Kids who normally eat at school won’t be able to. School calendars will be disrupted.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer acknowledged all these things as she announced her order to close all K-12 school buildings in the state March 16, to be re-opened April 6. But it’s a move she said was necessary to protect public health.

“This is going to be hard. But we’re going to get through this,” Whitmer said in a press conference late Thursday night.


“We had two cases yesterday, today we have 12. We expect more to come,” Whitmer said.

Just heard on ABC news that schools may not reopen until the fall.

That many people will lose their jobs because of this.

I have no new orders to fill at work for the next 3 weeks.

Unemployment until my 62nd BDay:9/11/01: would be OK I guess , if I survive.

The Ohio governor hinted Sunday that there was a good chance that schools wouldn't reopen for this school year during a press conference. I figure they won't school ends here about the 3rd week of May.

They did this locally, and what irritates me is that all of the teachers have email and have Skype (I know for a fact as I helped/worked with their System Admins) yet they are unavailable, but still getting full pay! I know if I don't work, I typically don't get paid.
