Just listened on youtube to the briefing from earlier today - and Dr Deborah Birx said the following, when talking about the numbers of projected infected, deaths, etc - said that everybody just needs to calm down, and quit generating fear. She continued -

"All the models were based on a study done at (didn't catch it, some group in the UK) and we're looking at that again because we have enough data now, and the reality is not what the models projected. Taking Italy, for example, the model projected over 400,000 deaths by this point, and they are nowhere near that." (8,215 as of 2 min ago)

At this point, I don't know whether to laugh or cry.
I think I'll laugh. :)

I think you have it pretty well on target.

The virus is real and it is something to watch and plan accordingly and not freak out over. But we are barely over a week into this and people (especially some "preppers") are acting like it is the end of the world. It is not. I cannot even read Maine Marine's posts over on PF anymore because he is acting like such a little girl over the whole thing. (My sincere apologies to little girls everywhere.)

We were 3 days into the "shutdown" and he was already calling for a government bailout for people making their damn mortgage payments?!?! I'm sorry, but after the Dot-Com/9-11 explosion in 2002 and the meltdown in 2008-09, if you have not learned to keep 6-12 months of living expenses held back in cash, you are too damn stupid to live and procreate! GRRRR!!!!

Just looking at the raw numbers, the US is going to come out of this mess in a very strong position, even with a damaged economy. Sure, we are hurting a little bit now and people are going to die, but looking at economies that weren't as strong as ours and their death tolls . . . ouch. NYC might be toast though.

I agree they're not hype or BS numbers. I just wish they'd give out ALL the numbers; especially how many tested came up negative. Pence said the numbers averaged out between hotspots and non-hotspots were at 10%; which means averaged 90% of the people tested were negative. NOT reporting those numbers adds to hysteria.

There is a lot not said about those numbers and a lot of facts you're ignoring.

Not every person is being tested, especially those who are asymptomatic, so we don't actually know the mortality rate.
