I've been following this for a while (even before the craziness) and some of the newer studies are enlightening. Two numbers I've seen from recent studies is that approximately 3% of the total US population has been infected (and recovered) and that only 6% of worldwide COVID-19 cases are being diagnosed. Looking at this, for the US only, puts numbers in perspective.


Assuming 3% of the US Population has been infected:

9,900,000 infected with 43,000 deaths; that's a death rate of 0.43%.


Assuming only 6% of cases have been diagnosed:

13,000,000 infected, with 43,000 deaths; that's a death rate of 0.33%.


Figure that the death rate for the Flu in the US typically floats around 0.1%, to give some perspective.

From what I've been reading from respiratory therapists posting: YES, if you need the ventilator to breathe, you're in trouble. The virus really tears up the lungs, so the tissue is already compromised. Ventilators utilize pressure, which some traumatized lung tissues cannot withstand. Helps some, hurts others.

Yeah and we have no numbers so far telling us how many of the deaths were elderly who are the most at risk. I heard one doctor say a lot of people who are dying would've died within 6 months anyway (because of other factors) and the COVID only sped up the process a little.

Now if you pull off the 3,700 "assumed," deaths, that brings it down to roughly %0.36 death.

The small town we travel to for supplies, like this morning, straddles the ID/WA border. The state line runs almost in the middle of the town. ID partially opened up, WA is still under lockdown. You can guess the rest. Maybe 20% of the people I saw in town wore masks; all the floors have 6' marked out with tape. Other than that - no change. Oh - the grocery store had one shelf-full of 4packs of TP for $9.99; limit 1 to a household. We passed on that. Plenty of meat, flour, sugar, canned goods.. even cleaning supplies.

This week, ECSO has received two complaints about people gathering and not social distancing. These are NOT an emergency or a matter that ECSO Deputies will be responding to.

These complaints were due to 15-20 people celebrating a birthday party, and today, a church hosting an outdoor church service.

The constitution of the United States allows us the Freedom to Assemble, and the Freedom of Religion. No emergency declaration that’s been signed can take those god given rights away from us.

I spoke at UNR in February, and I talked about how the protection of those rights are up to each of us. People choosing to exercise their rights to assemble is their step of protecting these rights.

From birthday parties to church services, these are the rights of the American people, and just because you don’t like what they’re doing, doesn’t mean you’re right. You have a choice to stay home, just as they have the right to assemble.

In closing, it is my stance, that the men and women of the ECSO will not be taking enforcement action on any of Governor Sisolak’s “Orders” that clearly violate our constitutional rights.
