I don't think there is a way to "prepare" for this, except "Drink up, we're doomed"

I'm sure you've heard by now of the Chinese rocket stage that's tumbling around above the Earth. One estimate I saw this morning has it de-orbiting around 9PM EDT Saturday. There is a real-time tracking site here:
https://orbit.ing-now.com/satellite/48275/2021-035b/cz-5b/

The biggest problem is that it is travelling at over 28000Km/hr, so it circles the Earth in about 15 seconds. The DoD has stated that they have "no plans" to use an intercepter (ABM) to destroy the rocket in a controlled manner.

Right now its orbit is from 45 South Longitude to 45 North Longitude.
How about a pool guessing where it comes down?
I know how my luck runs, so my guess is 42N 72W (give or take 100 miles).

I'll be selling souvenir pieces if it lands in my 10 acres.

May God bless,

Is it too much to hope for that it would land somewhere on Pennsylvania Ave?

Most of earth is ocean so odds are with you.

But if it could just land on Pelosi, the wicked witch of the west, like The Wizzard of OZ...

Heard the head of the CiA on Glenn Becks radio show say..they dont know where its gonna hit..hopefuly in the ocean or some place like that. Old Bill O'Reilly say yes how about Australia? Washington DC would be a good spot in my view. lol.

Well, that website has re-entry at 2hr 58 min as of right now.... 5:33pm CST.

It would be fitting to land on Beijing although the vast majority of it will burn up in the atmosphere. Would make a great viewing if near.

Looks like the path repeats every 16 orbits. 6 of those are over the US. Orbits 12-15 are over the most land masses, mainly Russia and China then down SE Asia to OZ....

My bet is the pacific...

This satellite tracker may be better.

3 hr 46 min

Estimates according to satview are near Australia. They are also saying that USSTRATCOM is estimating the Indian Ocean.

Well , ~ 45 minutes ago.

I guess I can't cash in on scrap Chinese beer cans.

Earlier Saturday, the Space Force’s 18th Space Control Squadron listed possible landing sites in Costa Rica, Haiti, Australia, Spain, Italy, Greece, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and New Zealand sometime between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. ET.

Nothing like pinning it down to one area.

Landed just off the southern Australian coast.

That was to let the Aussies know not to screw with them in the south China sea.

Why didn't someone use their shotgun to shoot it down? You know how easy it is..... just like shooting down drones!

Now I'm reading that it came down just west of the Maldives.

Fox got it wrong in the article I posted. By the coordinates it would indeed be east of the Maldives.

Hahaha, That's some hard flapping to break the sound barrier several times over! :plane:

Angularly, they're moving faster. So a de-orbiting rocket booster should be easy to hit.

The Canvasbacks are pretty quick and require a good bit of lead, but 28,000km/hr. may take a bit more.
