View Full Version : Food Prices to Rise 10-14 Percent by October

American families are already struggling amid mounting price inflation that’s eating away at their budgets, with higher costs for housing, vehicles, and more. Yet a top CEO is warning that the growing inflation problem facing Americans could get much worse in the coming months.
The latest June data already show price inflation at a 13-year high, with prices having risen 5.4 percent year-over-year. Proponents of the big-government policies driving much of this increase insist the uptick in prices is only temporary. But billionaire and grocery chain CEO John Catsimatidis just predicted that overall price inflation, for consumer goods generally, will hit a 6 percent annualized rate by October.
We've been watching extreme droughts, floods and Biden policies that have been endangering our food supply. Buying non-perishables today will save you money in a few short months.

If you have your food supply taken care of, make sure you are stockpiling cash/PMs/crypto/whatever trade medium you understand.
Once food and gas start going through the roof fast, there are going to be a LOT of deals available for things like property, equipment and cars. When the sheep cannot afford to feed themselves this fall/winter they will sell those BMWs, SUVs and investment properties at fire sale prices. By Christmas we should be in the greatest buying opportunity in a generation, maybe of all time. This could get real fun, real fast!

It's really depressing to see even junkfood becoming so expensive. Feeding five kiddos who eat like horses without dumping ten different types of sugars on their plates is getting unwieldy. So I've gotten myself 3 green houses and am hoping to grow grow grow, and along with the meat rabbits and the chickens and local meat suppliers, which doesn't raise their prices as quickly, it's going to work out alright. But if it doesn't: Anyone willing to adopt?

The Left needs a distraction and a scapegoat to obscure things like rising food prices and utilities. They will be scapegoating every non-leftist, and those who are not %100 lockstep with them, and unfortunately the majority (at least half) of the public will accept the BS as fact.
People like us who put food aside for emergencies will be blamed for the shortages (this has been done in the past) but this time it may get violent. We are already seeing small shortages of non-critical items, what happens when it isn't chips but is something like no milk in the store or a lack of the easy to make, bad for you, processed food?

I believe it will ALWAYS happen again. Not that it is inevitable, but when it comes to things like government, it attracts the psychopaths, the narcissists . . . those who crave power and control, so we need to remain vigilante.
The founding fathers knew this, which is why they left us the tools (the 1st and 2nd Amendment) to fix the problem as needed. The problem we are facing now is much the problem our founding fathers faced: when do we act?
Many of us on here have seen what war does to a city/country, and that is a hard decision to make, a decision that could mean ending our lives and that of our children, even if we are right/legal/Constitutional in the decision.
In the coming five to ten years we are all going to have choices to make, and they won't be fun ones.

I agree, although I think you may be too generous in your time line. Sooner then most believe or wish, it will be time to make hard decisions.
I say five to ten years, starting at 2020. So we're about a year or two in.
People won't notice the shortages at first, or will dismiss them as being caused by other things. When they start to notice, most will cry "GOVERNMENT, PLEASE SAVE US!" (this includes most Republicans) and government will provide a placebo to them for a little while; it will be in the form of UBI or maybe an advance on the EITC as we are seeing.
This will push back people from getting violent, for a time. As more and more goods are scarce, people will start to question what is going. Tempers will flare, fights will start over item shortages etc. We have always seen this in disasters, but more resources could always come in from outside. Now, this won't be a possibliity. No resources will be coming from other states to assist, because all states will be in the same situation.
As the anger spreads, the violence will get significantly worse. You will see bands or armed civilians forming. Some will be protecting farms/producers, some will be taking those goods; both will probably be formed of good people desperately trying to survive. We may even see people on this board on both sides of that conflict, and both will be morally right.
On top of that the police will be desperately trying to hold the tide against these groups along with the growing PC/SJW culture of AntiFa/BLM who will be rioting for Socialism/Communism. This will put the police in the crosshairs of every single armed group; they will be slaughtered, right or wrong.
I could probably write a whole thread on this topic, and I may have at one point and don't remember. Unfortunately I'm very good at 'wargaming,' situations like this and the more information I have, the better I get. This was one of my jobs in Baghdad.

I can’t help but agree with your thoughts and comments. I think you describe it very well.
In my thinking, The overriding issue is timing and rule of law.
Rule of law first:. When the SHTF, the left will turn on each other and they will be the ones violently protesting. Conservatives, for right or wrong, will follow the the law and basically take it up the ass. I’d predict a good 2/3 of conservatives fit this model. They are the ones that will give in to limits on 2a and 1a and 4a and others all because of the morality of following the rule of law. Most if not all of the looting and burning and protesting will be from the left against the government, regardless of which party controls the government.
Timing: the slow burn of inflation and gas shortages and maybe even some food shortages will not trigger mass protesters; just isolated and in democrats cesspools. We saw this in the 70’s with double digit inflation, tight money, fuel and food shortages, and you didn’t see the mass riots. The generations have changed from then to now so It may be different. If we see the protest it will again, be the left/communists. If it is indeed a slow burn into the depth, then it will be at least 10 years or more. Most empires fade over a long period of time. personally, I think this will happen to the US. Fade over time with a series of events that cause riots, etc but nothing dystopian.
Unless.. there is some type of trigger event and it would be massive. Then all bets are off. No idea what that could be. And it could be something fairly innocuous too but big enough to light the short fuse.
And speaking of trigger events, you know the best way to get the country united and out of a “depression”? War. I think that is more likely in the very near future.

There won't be, at least not one with enough of an 'oomph,' for the whole nation. We are simply too geographically different and demographically different. Each region/state is likely to have their own trigger events based on their local governors and politicians. What might cause an uprising here in KY might not do much to OH to the north. That is one reason why I say five to ten years, because the triggers/overflows/violence is going to start regionally and the news will downplay it.

Maybe, but probably not. I say this because much of the world is seeing the same problems the US is having with Fascism. In Canada, Europe and many other previously, seemingly 'free,' countries they are now admittedly censoring their citizens. The US was/is a major exporter of food and other resources; we can survive on our own, even militarily, against the rest of the world.
What we're going to see are internal conflicts, civil wars and revolutions.
'Mad Max,' might be an extreme, but I honestly would not be surprised to see communities drawing in and closing off the rest of the nation.

The thing is if the US implodes/explodes be it economic collapse or something else the rest of the world will catch fire too because everything is too tied up and enmeshed. That may have been good for countries but it also makes all of them weaker too.
Like the collapse of Rome I think if the US collapse will cause darkness to fall other places hopefully it won't take as long for the world to collect itself and rebuild as it did after Rome. And hopefully it will be the good people who come out of the dark not the evil.

What I find very entertaining is that I support and believe in that scenario that the US will still come out of it ahead of the other nations of the world.
American are very stubborn, very well armed and we have the resources here (and North America) to sustain whereas other nations do not.
Sure, it would be a big pile of crap, but we would probably be at the top!

I was out banging around on the web yesterday and I happened across a news story about the coffee farms in Brazil. Apparently, they are having a bad cold snap there which is killing a lot of the coffee trees. So it seems likely that coffee will be going up in price significantly in the next year or so.
Since I have not bought any beans for a few years, I thought it might be prudent to just top off our supply of green beans while they are still somewhat cheap. When I buy green coffee beans, I usually buy them 200-300 pounds at a time to get the per-pound price down. They come in 50 pound burlap sacks and do not require any special packaging to store; literally just throw the sacks on a shelf and keep them dry. They last forever without spoiling.
As I said, the last time I ordered was about 3-4 years ago and I paid around $5.50 per pound for Columbian. Now, it is already up to $7.71 per pound and they do not even offer the 50# bags anymore! (I may call them and see if they can't shave a little more off the price if I order a few hundred pounds, but damn.)

If you need your morning coffee to be productive, now might be a good time to put some extra back because I think prices are going to get ugly in the next several months.
Edit: This place seems to have MUCH better prices.

I don't discount outright war in the next few years. China and Russia are moving the chess pieces and are becoming more bold. They are looking at the multifaceted infighting, a country more and more divided, an extremely weak white house and presidency, and a military that is maybe to "woke" for it's own good. Obama, and now his puppet Joe, are exchanging soldiers for PC liberal yes men. Putin already sees a nuclear exchange as winnable and China is building up their military alarmingly fast. China also fits well in Thucydides's Trap scenario perfectly in my opinion.
If civil war comes you can look for China, Russia, or both to push us over the edge. Civil war, outright war or both, either way, I see war coming.

I don't see China or Russia trying anything against America, what I can see them doing is taking advantage of our chaos to move on other assets around the world, in Asia and Europe. That is because, even in our Chaos, America is a beast when it comes to war. Could you imagine all of the anger of a second civil war turned towards an outside aggressor? Even worse if the feds have lost control of the military and the states are acting on their own and/or veterans/soldiers are not constrained by the rules of war.
Despite the state of our military, Americans have an amazing ability to pull together against an outside threat, and we are uniquely twisted when it comes to inventing weapons of war.
Does it worry me? Yeah, but what worries more is a Civil War.

The thing that worries me in regards to war is that, yes, America is a beast when it comes to fighting, but only under strong and dedicated leadership. My fear is that the current folks in power will just hand the keys over to the opposing countries. Sell us down the river. I did not ever have those thoughts with President Trump in office. I sometimes had those thoughts with Obama. Never had those thoughts with other presidents, even Clinton. The current folks at the top breed an intense uneasiness in me on a national level.

Simply put: America wouldn't be worth the effort. China and Russia would make better inroads taking over Asia and Europe with the USA distracted, that's my point. We won't care about the rest of the world when we're fighting our neighbors and family. Now, once they have a firm grip on Asia and Europe? Maybe. America is geographically isolated, so any invasion would have to be by sea or they would have to land in Mexico and invade from there. Canada is a maybe, but that would be suicidal even in good weather.
I'm not discounting war, just looking at with a cold amount of reason and profitability.

What frightens me would be a military or civilian populace who gives the finger to the government. Do you honestly thing that even half the military would surrender when their homes are being invaded and family killed? No, and when that happens . . . . it gets messy.

I know, so? How do they plan to collect? You have to look at this from a logistics method, not a document method. China would have to invade or our own military/LEO's would have to act; neither is a plan for a long life by the collectors.
Don't discount anything I am as saying we are not heading for violence, we are heading for a level of violence exceeding that of WWII, probably something that will make that war pale in casualties and damage to countries. What I am stating is that the world is all going to go to crap, with most likely America and China at the top of the crap pile.

Don't discount anything I am as saying we are not heading for violence, we are heading for a level of violence exceeding that of WWII, probably something that will make that war pale in casualties and damage to countries. What I am stating is that the world is all going to go to crap, with most likely America and China at the top of the crap pile.

Prices rising her are not the only problem... Lots of empty shelves at the nearest walmart... no cases of bottled water, no gatorade/poweraid, empty chip shelves... juices empty..
I didn't need any of that shit... just noticed is all
Well the water is down enough so that I could get out for here today.
I went to Walmart this evening, 5:30 our time, there were few people compared to noon time.
The shelves were reasonably stocked, short on a couple of items,
everything you mentioned was in full supply, full shelves.
The bread aisle was kind of short as usual, breadstuffs are outsourced to local bakeries,
and they only deliver once a day, early in the morning.
I was able to get everything on our list.

Again, back to logistics. There is a marked difference between owning them on paper and controlling the actual land. The only logistical way to do that is through the Chinese military or with US law enforcement or military, that's my point.
In a scenario where CONUS is in the middle of a Civil War, how likely do you think it is for the Chinese military to land on our shores, and get to our farmland? Let alone maintain a logistical chain to support them? Even the US military would find that impossible for any length of time or over a large enough area and this is our 'home turf,' where it is reasonable to assume many would know the area.
How often do you think the bank is going to be physically foreclosing on a property when their branches are on fire and their agents are disappearing?

Maybe, but what happens to the 'old,' military? Are they going to put a 9mm round in the back of their head along with their DD214?
I think the issue here is time. What would have worked in Europe with a populace that is used to subservience to the government doesn't work as well in the US where both sides of the political spectrum are used to giving the feds a big middle finger, it is part of our societal DNA.
If they had ten years to get everything in place, then maybe they could do it, but I think they pushed too hard under Obama and played their hand too heavy against Trump. These same tactics worked in Canada if you were watching, but they got massive pushback here in the states. A large part of that is how out Constitution is setup.

The fact that Joe Biden is sitting behind the desk in the Oval Office today is proof that the American public has become subservient. We let an election get hijacked and let a President get sworn in that was NOT voted for by a majority of Americans. "We will get them next time" only works for so long, as eventually, there is no "next time". Alas, Babylon!

I don't think the bulk of people are subservient, I think they have lost faith in the electoral process, and there is only one course of action after that.
This is what truly scares me, and should scare many of us. We all know how truly fragile society is, how easily it falls apart whenever there is a crisis, real or imagined.
What happens when, let's say just %25 of the adult population, decides they no longer believe they should follow the government's laws?
What happens when we don't have just one Waco compound, but have dozens of them in every state? What about when neighborhoods in cities decide the same thing and start barring police officers?
You might say it cannot happen, but that is exactly what I saw in Baghdad and they were significantly less armed and less trained than the average American.
We let an election get hijacked and let a President get sworn in that was NOT voted for by a majority of Americans. "We will get them next time" only works for so long, as eventually, there is no "next time". Alas, Babylon!
What were we supposed to do, honestly? I'm not being flippant or a smart-ass, but this is the real question here.
Were we supposed to grab our rifles, body armor and drag politicians out of their offices then execute them in the street?
Should we have gone around to election official's houses, pulled them out and strung them over the highways by their necks as a warning?
Maybe we should have rioted, burned down our cities and attacked police officers?
We could have pulled a page from Sadr city and burned dissidents alive?
What, realistically, were we supposed to do within the limits of our current electoral, primary and two-party system?
I feel I may have derailed this thread in my bourbon fueled ranting, maybe a new thread? Thoughts?

I understand what juskom95 is saying, war doesn't make sense, but then again, it rarely does. I don't see a direct sudden attack by either Russia or China against the US. Certainly not an outright invasion. Rather I see a progression of events that leads us into war. We protect this, they protect that. One move begets another. There are a lot of points of contention between the 3 powers and a lot of fingers hovering over a lot of buttons.
No one believed WWII was coming except for a guy named Churchill and a few others. One move on top of another, whether it makes sense or not, war always comes. The chess game is being played as we speak.

Unless.. there is some type of trigger event and it would be massive. Then all bets are off. No idea what that could be. And it could be something fairly innocuous too but big enough to light the short fuse.
...
There won't be, at least not one with enough of an 'oomph,' for the whole nation. We are simply too geographically different and demographically different. Each region/state is likely to have their own trigger events based on their local governors and politicians. What might cause an uprising here in KY might not do much to OH to the north.
I'd agree we are too geographically/demographically diverse for anything this side of war to be a trigger event...except for one little thing.
What's the one thing that everyone in this country is fully dependent on? Any guesses?
Here's a hint: What does a new John Deere have in common with Inor's new refrigerator?

Today we have about 25%-30% of the industrial capacity that we enjoyed in the 1930's.
Thousands of factories that turned out all sorts of goods for the war effort are gone,
and with them the knowledge to build anything.
Those factories resprouted in China and under their control.
We have 5% of the shipping capacity once present, politics destroyed our merchant marine fleet.

The thing that could save us would be a fast crash, earlier than any of the other nations (or our dimwitted Politicians) see happening. China and Russia need the next ten years to shore up their military, place strategic assets and cripple the countries in Europe & Asia that would oppose them.
A fast crash here in the US would see us getting back on our feet much faster, and with a much different national agenda/ideology that would probably be directly opposed to China/Russia.
So . . . pedal to the metal!

Be it military, industrial, manufacturing, transportation, utility services, farming, communications - even the digital thermostat on your wall - all of it. And it's our own damn fault, for putting all our eggs in a very tiny basket. A basket we don't own and can't replace.

Most people, especially Americans, do not want to live in chaos and anarchy. But they also do not want tyrants in Washington or their state capital telling them what to do in every aspect of their lives (wear a face diaper). When groups of civilized people decide they are just not going to participate in the tyranny of a remote government anymore, it does not mean that anything goes and folks start killing each other and engaging in cannibalism (at least outside the ghetto). Social norms take over and folks come up with their own "rules" of what is acceptable and what is not. When degenerates step outside the bounds, consequences happen with or without the heavy hand of government. That is the essence of self-determination.
Your example of the Waco Wacko is the perfect example... They had their own little culture with their own rules and their own punishments. About 15 years ago, there were failures in NAVAIDS for B52 bombers and some other aircraft,
a certain chip in the units were responsible for the failures.
A corrupt, crooked US based supplier replaced the certified chips with chink junk to make 50X the profit.
They caught the company, I don't know what happened to them over it,
the least should have been barred from any future DOD bids.
Raytheon also had a similar problem with low grade chips in Patriot air defense missiles about 10 years ago.

As I told you about the flooding. when at normal levels in the lake, my pump is down with a total of 15 feet,
4 feet is in the air above water level, right now only 1 foot above.
At least the water is going down.

Yeah a pipe extension works well.
When we spent the summers up on Hudson Bay,

I think the water was just above freezing, the bay was way to cold to swim, but the Indians went in it.

We have 3 wells on our property. 2 are electric with one being a subsurface pump and another with the motor on top. The third well doesn’t have anything and we’ll be installing a hand pump. It’s newly acquired property adjoining ours so we aren’t sure of the depth but most wells around here are around 150-200’. Newer well drop to 400’ but this well is older.

Washington said, well it is fair and open competition, lowest bidder wins.
They showed the politicians just how much the machines cost the chinks,

Ours is 1.5 gallons/minute. We have a 60gal pressure tank in the cabin, and there's about 150gals reserve in the casing. We only ran it dry once: I didn't know Tom was watering when I jumped in the shower while doing laundry LOL. Hour later there was enough to fill the tank, another few hours everything was back full. :)
My first year on the mountain (and Tom's 9 years before me) we hauled drinking water in 5gal jugs filled at friends, and other water was gathered at the lake, in barrels in the back of his van with hoses and a little 12v pump. After I inherited a little money from mom - the first thing to happen was the well. Like I told him, I'll live without many things up here, but water won't be one of them.
Hope you get something set up soon, Slippy.

I really don't know about it, hope you are right.
There is little machinery for sale around here,
most sales places are out of business, and I mean the big ones that operated here.
It would take 3-4 years to bring up production of basic machines,
the ones used to make production machinery.
The machinery that existed all to often I saw in the scrap yard, I bought one for pennies on the dollar,
I could have and should have bought more of them, problem was the space to put them.
I do not think there would be enough time to roll out those products in time.

For example, look at the names of the legislation being put forward “for the people” bill. Right out of atlas shrugged.
Whatever do you mean Mr Reardon?
Of course the minor inflation we are seeing now is just transitory. It is nothing a few trillion more dollars of stimulus cannot solve. Just to level the playing field of course.
The supply-chain disruptions? That's nothing but a minor glitch. It will work itself out in a few weeks.
Hackers disrupting distribution pipelines? That is just anti-social criminals and their rich fat-cat friends in the oil industry taking advantage of the little people.
Unemployment rates going up at the same time as businesses cannot hire workers? Obviously the business owners are just trying to take advantage of the workers and the workers have had enough.

And where is Galt's Gulch? Is it Texas, or Florida? Where should we take our equity and productive abilities so as not to be robbed? And if we all did, would the parasites sit idle while the productive, and those holding earned equity, abandoned the socialist landscape? Without those productive efforts held hostage, the socialist train rumbles to a stop. Will Civil War II start in Texas? Or BECAUSE Texas exists? Discuss.

We're not quite there yet, but it is coming. I don't think it is going to be a single location, but we are already seeing states push back against the COVID-1984 CDC insanity. Those states are going to be where we can to for help and support.
My state isn't one unfortunately, at least not yet.

It isn't going to play out that way. It is going to be factional, and very much tribal, over a state-vs-state military thing, at least at first. You are going to see the 'hoarders,' the 'selfish,' unvaccinated and the 'racists,' blamed for everything bad. Citizens AntiFa/BLM (and groups like them) will expand what they are feeling empowered to do and what is going to happen is citizens are going to start defending themselves violently. This will then turn the police on the legal citizens, and it will spiral from there.

as for civil war breaking out here, The covid vax has been weaponized. The states can now close down and reinstate mask mandates and simply blame the unvaxed and not the virus. further dividing the people.... the unvaxed are the reason the businesses are closed, the economy finally tanks, people are getting evicted, inflation, etc.... everything can be blamed on those without the jab henceforth.
This is true. The sad fact is it will get to the point where they won't let the unvaxed work, and the vaxed won't work....

I fully expect the USPS to declare all their workers (being essential) required to take the jab... and the 30-40% that refuse and quit will be the reason the USPS goes under (creating chaos) and be blamed..... not their entire sum of mismanagement prior to the declaration. The Unvaxed destroyed the USPS and created the chaos that ensues.

I am doing Chicken on the grill today. I paid twice what I paid a year ago for whole chickens. While my wife was alive I never paid attention to food prices. What I wanted went into the cart. For some reason now, I am paying attention and seems the price of the most common goods are way up. What used to cost me 150 at the store is now 200 or 225 or so. Joe Biden's criminal enterprise says it's just temporary. Bull shit!

Galt's Gulch is not a place; it is state of mind. It is wherever I (or you) happen to be at the time. That is the beauty of the time we live in. We do not need to be centrally located. We do not need to have a coordinated effort. All we need is enough people to withhold their talents from a system that demands their obedience to survive. The motivation of why individuals are dropping out does not even matter. I think we are on the verge of reaching "critical mass" with enough folks dropping out of city-life and taking their talents with them that the system will collapse on itself.
It is truly a great time to be alive!

Cheap hamburger is more expensive than steaks on sale here.
Thick cut top rounds were $2.99/lb three weeks back. They were 2-3 lb steaks. Burger was $5.50/lb, WTF!!!.
I've got the last of those steaks marinating for tonight. I should have got 10 more and put in the freezer. This week sirloin is $4.99/lb, still cheaper than burger, will stock up.
Chicken, boneless breasts, have jumped ~1.70/lb to $2/lb on special.
I stopped buying fish. Used to see swordfish and wild caught salmon $5-6/lb on sale , no more. I still have stash of whole wild salmon fillets stashed in the freezer.
Shellfish way up. Clams 2-3X and lobsters too.
I'm hoping my applications for extra deer tags get selected, and I'll put in for bear permit again this year.

I have a few quality old hand grinders, not quick but they work well, one is pretty big. Usually only on venison/wild game. I hate to waste any of that, and time permitting, there is not much left the crows would want.

I have been seeing different products each week being out of stock. One week it was lemonade, one week it was chips, one week it was cottage cheese etc. Nothing consistently so it is definitely a supply chain issue, not a production issue.

I hear ya, but when have rural needs ever been a factor in decisions at that level?
Other than delivering for UPS/FedEx, everything you listed is encouraged to switch to online, by the providers themselves, with discounts given for "paperless" transactions. The exception would be holiday and birthday cards etc - but even those are phasing out with the younger crowd, in favor of online greetings.
I don't think USPS will be "canceled" soon (it employs too many gov workers) but I think it will happen in time.

I've got an old Cabelas grinder, the biggest one they made at the time....3 hp? It has reverse (must have feature) and a stuffer attachment and an add on foot pedal switch. It works great, Grinds the toughest cuts and never slows down. Now all I need is that big 6x6 bull elk this coming October.

Devastating floods in Germany, China, Turkey, and India. Scorching hot weather in the Western U.S. and Canada. Worst frost in two decades across Brazil. These recent weather phenomena are rapidly intensifying and threaten further food inflation already at decade highs.
We documented last week Brazil had some of the worst frost conditions in two decades. Temperatures dropped below zero and delivered a massive blow to farmers across the country's coffee belt. The result has been sky-high coffee prices.
Back-to-back heatwaves continue to scorch the Earth across the Western half of the U.S. The corn belt, which spans the Midwest, lacks rainfall, and hot weather could negatively impact crop development, leading to an underwhelming harvest.
The article goes on to explain how jet streams control the weather and when they get wonky, bad things can happen.
Short food supply, higher prices. It can also mean civil unrest.
