Today, that would have to be a pirate station broadcasting.

I use to monitor Radio Free Europe English broadcast during the 50's, 60's and 70's on shortwave.

Also listened to the Voice of America in the same time period,

would spend half of the night listening with earphones on.

I had two 50' long antennas pointing to the east to pick up their signals.

Ground effect from the VOA was so strong that I only needed a 8 foot whip.

Yeah, yeah, I was a geek, but with a bite.

This clip here is a popular and well known scene from the movie "Red Dawn".

Those messages and the scene, were a reflection of, and homage paid

to the real ones sent out from England to the resistance fighter in Europe.

Many of those messages were sent to OSS operatives working on the continent,

I knew one of those operatives very well.

I've got some small radios that have SW. Surprising what you can pick up, and what a different perspective you get than the corrupt MSM here.

It's also good to know reception varies with both wavelength and time of day/night. @SOCOM42 could probably elaborate on that better than I.

Concerning "outlaw" radio.....
