90,000 miles -- timing belt was already changed --
Chevy suggested on my Sonic -- the belt & water pump be changed at 90 ---- I did it at 85 --- I'm funny that way -- L

Built in Belvidere, IL, about 25 miles from the T-Man Compound. Belvidere was also home of the Omni / Horizon, just sayin..

Idk, bought a zj a few years back, 98 GC 4.0 really liked it, but my 350 chevy p/u got the same gas mileage and waay more useful. Straight sixes are pretty much bullet proof, just couldn't deal with the poor mileage for a people carrier. I got a heavy foot so its my bad, but still.

Brother in law bought one used.
Small inside and not very powerful. It’s a good all weather grocery getter.
It would not be a good off road vehicle. I thought it rode rough as hell.
Only been in it a couple of times.

A good friend had one for his yearly from Penstar. We drove it over tree trunks the road used to be on, crossed streams and didn't get stuck.
My old Trailblazer with a 6 climbed the hill towing the Compatriot up that couldn't make it

Another timing story ----
Sold the Sonic to Carvana --- made a small profit -- ( theres a nagging voice in my head --- "See what they'll offer you ------ " )
Turned in my Ricekila tags ( $200. a year --- ain't worth it ) -- but kept one for my mobility scoot --
Found some extra money in my sock draw ----- bought the jeep --- had to get new / fresh plates - $248. --
Frame of reference --- the Sonic was a cracker-box --- small & kinda cramped -- but for around town - prefect --
Her Trax is kinda small -- a little more room than the Sonic --- and rode better --
This thing is massive ( not as big as my 75 Eldorado ) -- rides great --- rear view mirrors are like little T/V's ---
Went to my key guy --- only came with 1 key ( lock / unlock / panic ) -- $200. for a second key ----- now just for shits & giggles -- I'm looking for a jeep dealer ---

Nothing wrong in my opinion.
We got ducked early last summer in a school parking lot.
My daughter wanted to keep it, we did and it is taped to the top of the dash in the silver Jeep.
The guy almost got shot in the process of giving it to me.
I just got out of the Jeep when this big shaggy guy yells at me if I am the owner of the Jeep.
Walking over, he took a quick look at the inside of it and said "I have something for you" in a gruff manner.
He then started reaching into his jacket pocket, as he moved into it,
I grabbed the S&W 642 in my coat pocket and started moving it into a waste firing position.
He pulls out a friggin 3 inch long yellow rubber duck, oh shit, I thought!!!
Now, what the hell do I do with all that adrenalin in my system???
I accepted it with a shaking right hand and learned what it was about, F'CK!

Didn't they stop making Jeeps in 1971?
I've got a 67 and a 62 Kaisers, CJ5 Buick V6 Warn OD former, and Wagon super hurricane 6 flathead.
First has 67,000 the other <30,000 miles. Both without winter driving. The wagon is a project, motor rebuilt, new brakes/rancho kit.
The CJ is most all original. No rust/patches, has American racing wheels and AM tube bumpers. I have parts to convert that to Chevy C10 discs in front. It goes 70 easy but don't slow down quick.

Let the replacement parts / up-grades commence --
The drivers side / front passenger window switch --- only works going down -- cant raise the window from the drivers side -- ordered a replacement from Autozone --
Roof rack cross bars were missing - ( great design - unscrew the big knobs and they grow legs in the dark ) - ordered replacement bars from Ebay & will replace the knobs with the security type allen bolts --- that should slow down the leg growing a little bit --
From a company called Infotainment -- I found this --
The GPS antenna can be stuck ( magnetic back ) on top of the radio unit ---- if theres a problem -- I'll super glue it behind the rearview mirror -- And 1/2 the price of the Kenwood I shoved in the Sonic ---- I loves me some GPS --
https://www.infotainment.com/products/2011-2017-jeep-compass-gps-garmin-navigation-rhb-430n-radio?variant=5374192222244
5 plugs & 4 screws -- even I can do it -- ?
P/S Edit --- and color coded battery terminal clamps --- the factory stamped sheet metal ones suck -- surprised they lasted 8-ish years --
P/SS Edit --- infotainment customer service really sucks ---- big time ---- more on that later !

Sooooooooooooooo -- I can't get the GPS to locate ? find satellites ----- after I fired off a spiffy email --- I then read the problem section --
"Make sure the antenna has a clear view of the sky" ---- Yes --
" Make sure the center pin of the antenna wire going into the unit isn't bent" --- It isn't --
Here the odd one --
"The GPS unit may be locked --
""In some situations, for a GPS signal to lock with a unit, you may need to drive in a circle three times clockwise, then counter clockwise three times to calibrate the GPS.""
So if you see some moron in a parking lot ---
Next I'll try -- standing on the roof while holding a coconut in one hand and a fish in the other while singing - "Tomorrow Belongs to Me" ---
hawgrider
01-08-2023, 06:19 PM
Stupid compass on the Buick Lucerne to change the zone and re calibrate you have to drive in circles like a retard for what seems like ten times before it tells you its calibrated.
Here the odd one --
"The GPS unit may be locked --
""In some situations, for a GPS signal to lock with a unit, you may need to drive in a circle three times clockwise, then counter clockwise three times to calibrate the GPS.""
Make sure you look around for cops before you do that one. No sense getting a DWI for just trying to get your GPS working...

About a year ago -- for the Sonic - I gots one of those plug into the OBD2 port things - then insert the mini-disk into the player - enter "0000" for the code - remove disk --- then anytime ya-wanna see what's going on under the hood ( check on the squirrels ) --- an array of digital or analog looking gauges shows up on the screen ----
