And so it begins. :)

While studying/learning over these last months, I've been ordering in supplies - jars, bottles, scale, reference books - and yesterday the first batch of material medica (organic herbs/spices/roots) arrived; more coming next week. I have two cases of 80-proof Vodka stocked up to use as the menstrum for the tinctures; and the formulae are pretty well decided on; just a couple more things to cross-check for any contraindications. The initial focus will be on reducing inflammation, lowering PO's blood pressure, and a night-time pain relief + sleep inducer. Next up will be natural antibiotics and cold/flu remedies... in extract and syrup formats, respectively.

PO has been helping me by providing empty Jägermeister bottles; the dark green glass will be perfect for the finished products. :thumb:

Ferment some garlic and honey.

Yep! All the syrups will be made with raw honey - most of the cold/flu ones will have lots of garlic, some clove & ginger

Looking forward to following this thread.
My Granny used to brew yellow root tea for her stomach. She also made teas with dandelion, garlic, and sassafras.

That tincture I'll be making for PO uses vodka for the base, with infused White Willow bark, Turmeric, GingerRoot, Echinacea, and Catnip; the daytime version swaps FeverFew for the Echinacea and drops the Catnip.

A 1oz shot glass worth should do the trick just dandy. :)

Willow bark is a aspirin substitute
What are the other tinctures used to treat?
Thanks - BoF

They'll be combined with others (yet to be made) to treat high blood pressure, pain and inflammation.

This is sounding like the contents of a Witches supply closet..which might induce a person to ask..."Is you a good or bad witch?" Thanks. Asking on behalf of a friend. What is up with using 80 proof vodka as a solvent? Have you ever tried Calypso 151? It leaches the goodies out quicker than a minner can swim a dipper. To borrrow a colloquial phrase from up in the Panhandle. It also tastes good in a wine cooler.

Never heard of it. Must be illegal in Texas. Some good 190 proof white dog works well too. lol. The Caypso 151 costs less than twelve bucks a fifth or howmany ever divisions of liter that size is nowadays. The only other strong ethyl alcohol I know about is Everclear with is higher than a kite and tastes like cheap vodka. The Rum lasts a good while but the half cup of tincture lasts forever for them who clown around occasionally making Long Kools. lol

Things are coming right along! :)

The tinctures made from all 10 herbs/roots/barks won't be ready until the first of March - so in the meantime, I crafted up two remedies for PO.

For his high blood pressure: twice a day he drinks 6oz of a tea made with Hawthorn leaf (heart health/hbp), Tulsi leaf (reduces hbp); with Echinacea leaf (overall health & acts as catalyst for the hawthorn&tulsi) added to the morning brew, and Catnip (sedative) added to the evening dose.

For his inflammation caused pain: I made a syrup with 1.5 cups of *berries, 3.5 cups filtered water, medicinal quantities of ginger, cloves, Ceylon cinamon & cayenne reduced down to half, strained and a cup of raw honey added. I funnel it into those nice green bottles PO provided - and he takes a good swig 3x a day.

*berries: I'm using up the blueberries in the freezer - until the ordered elderberries arrive.

He's been doing the pain swigs now for just over 2 weeks, and the hbp tea for 5 days... and so far it hasn't killed him. :bounce:

For real, I can feel the difference, but sometimes that Catnip makes me want to claw up the couch and climb the drapes. :bounce:

Love the inflammation tonic. Maybe add some turmeric?

I am the poster child of Osteo Arthritis.

One of my orthopedic docs actually asked me if I had been in a real bad accident where multiple bones were broken or if I was a stuntman by trade.

I've learned to hide it pretty well by keeping my weight down (somewhat) and taking lots of natural anti-inflammatory shit. My pain tolerance is pretty high but that is a two edged sword as part of my problems exist because of "working thru the pain".

Same with multiple years of taking cortisone shots and abusing ibuprofen and other meds; a two edged sword.

They reduce inflammation/take away the pain but the damage is still there. I don't walk with a limp but I do have a very hi-tech ankle and foot brace/boot that I use when its real bad.

But when I finally get home to my couch and footrest, it is like HEAVEN just to take my boots off and put my legs up for a rest.

Note to youngsters, take care of yourself!

Thanks! And yeppers on the turmeric - I've already got some root working in a tincture. As I adjust potency levels between now and when it's ready, I'll powder some of the granules up and add it to the syrup. Small increments upwards as PO adapts; don't wanna kill him too quickly, ya know. :)

Lord knows I have been known to piss the women in my life off. I have a special talent, or so I have been told. :eyebrows:

This one is one of only two I ever really trusted and one of the most caring and compassionate women I have ever met. She came into my life at the perfect moment. I couldn't ask for better.

Still, she keeps asking me if my life insurance is paid up.......and...........................I have overheard whispered phone conversations between her and a guy named Guido the enforcer. But I 'm sure it's nothing.

My thoughts are that humans existed /survived disease, etc before big pharma with what He provided for us. Didn't realize it, but, kinda big on natural remedies. Really don't care for all the additives that are put in stuff nowadays.

Not medicine, but what was the first guy thinking who saw coffee beans, that look like rabbit shit, and thought hey, these might taste good? Just some of the stupid shit I wonder about, how did we as a species make it this far?
