Snagged one on Amazon a few months ago and have found it useful. I we live within a mile or two of most all types of retail establishments..fast food or set down restaraunts..grocery stores..banks..bars..hardware stroes and my work location. Can carrry a lot of sundry crap in the big basket. Gives pretty good exercise for old guys. Everybody needs one to help Biden save the Planet from evil gasoline. This is the one I got. Looks like some said it was hard to put together..but my 84 year old neighbor hooked mine up with no problem. He said he just followed the directions.

That hill to the beer store requires walking the bike up.

The next store is 5 miles away on a road with no shoulder and a speed limit that is only a suggestion.

Ok sounds like you may need an add on front hub kit for throttle and pedal assist or else buy an e bike. I got mine with the idea of giving it a motor but it aint overly hilly around here. I usually get panicky going down hill in first gear. A neighbor fixed it to always stay in first. A nice fellow said was cheaper to buy an add on motor than to buy one already rigged up. My neighbor said he could hook this up on mine easy peasy.

I'm still on a two wheeler, but will keep that cool option in mind. Be fun to bogart the entire bike lane here in hippyland LOL. I might add on some Roman chariot wheel spikes too.

My thoughts, nothing says I'm an old fart ,more than riding a trike, like banging the fat ugly gal from at closing time, fun to ride but you don't want to be seen riding on one. I say this and the next thing you know I'll be riding one.:)

Yep as an old cowboy hiippy can say we thought anybody over 40 was worthless..and now at 73 I realize yes we was right. lol. Getting old aint for sissies or for them with puffed up egos. lol. To paraphrase the Book.."Man who is born of woman is short of days and full of trouble."

I built an "Adult" trike back in the early 70's. Harley Servicar. Hopped up 45 flathead, 3 speed with reverse and a chromed bayonet shifter. Modified front frame section, fake coffin tank that housed the electrics and the gas tank was a polished brass fire extinguisher. 20" over stock narrowed 'glide. 21" Invader front wheel with Avon tire. L-60-15 fatties on 10" chrome reversed wheels and a custom pearl blue paint job. Wasn't very fast of course, but did do some impresive wheelies and got some looks when backing into a parking space.

WOW. :thumb: I'd love to see pics of that but since it lived in the early 70's... I'm guessing that wont happen.
Unless you've got tons of old photo albums, and get bored or drunk enough sometime to flip back to the good old days. :oldwheelchair:

Definitely scan in pics if you have them! Admiring other people's projects like this that are crafted and built is like "shop porn" for me! :chopper:

I think I have a picture of it somewhere. It was taken with a Polaroid Instamatic camera too. I'll try to find the ONE picture I have of it. I always wanted to build a V-8 trike with the 215" Olds engine that I had. Ran out of time and health. Now I just would like to complete my 65 Mustang and my 1930 Chrysler.

A little off topic, but I miss the days when you went to a friends house and they pulled out a shoe box full of actual pictures to look at. Instead off shoving a phone in your face.

Wow..very cool. Sounds like some I seen while helping host the Bandidoes National Convention on Padre Island in around 72. Seems like the vice President named Big Barn Smell rode a trike. Big fat guy with a beard and wore Bib Overalls.

I feels your pain. The clubs full of homos go on a ride and run stop signs in en mass. Its hard to figure out who gets the ticket. They all wear the little wood pecker helmets.

Quickly back to the topic at hand..lol I intend to put a front hub electric motor and lithium ion battery on my tricycle and make it part of my bug in or out strategy Thinking of snagging the stuff to do it on Amazon. Any suggestions on good cheap items would be welcome. Would like to be able to make it go using an Ego brand 56 volt lithium battery as goes on my leaf blower and weed eater I already have a couple of those batteries. I think it needs some kind of converter gizmo to make it worky right on a 48 volt motor but not sure what is it exactly and where to get one. Was thinkin Inor or some other super smart person might know? Thanks.

Off the top of my head I am thinking your going to have a lack of voltage/power problem as well as a gearing problem.
That’s a big load for suck a small power source.
JMHO … I am admittedly ignorant about this topic

Thanks. All useful tips welcome. Maybe need a bigger motor. Sounds logical or I think maybe the gizmo I need can reduce the current down to where the small motor can use it..but just guessing. I thought I saw one on Amazon but cant find it again now. Recall some guy said it was low quality and made by a 3 d printer.

For the controller, I would look at something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/24V-36V-Controller-Electric-Waterproof-Brushless/dp/B07GKRW8XK/ref=asc_df_B07GKRW8XK&mcid=4a663822ed6238ddbfd97713ee4f4d4e?tag=bngsmtph snus-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=80401918132212&hvnetw=s&hvqmt=e&hvbmt=be&hvdev=c&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=&hvtargid=pla-4584001437029430&psc=1

Depending on how much experimenting you want to do, you could just buy the motor already premade for an electric bike. Or if you do not mind spending the time to fart around with it, a car alternator can be made into a motor pretty easily. Chrysler and GM alternators are pretty easy to reconfigure, just remove the voltage regulator. Then you will also need a volt-ohm meter to figure out what the configuration of the windings are (star configuration or whatever, etc.). Once you have that worked out, wiring it up to the controller is easy.

For batteries... The cheapest way to go is to collect a bunch of 18650 cells from old laptops, cordless tools, etc. If you know a handicapped person that you do not like, their electric wheelchair or those electric Walmart carts for the fat people generally have about 48 18650 cells in them. Steal a couple of those and you'll be farting through silk! Those have the added benefit of usually being very high quality cells.
