So far, we have been putting the meat chickens in with our egg chickens once they get big enough to come out of the brooding cage. That worked okay but it does upset the egg chickens and their egg production does drop off while the meat birds are with them.

This spring we decided to separate them. That should be much easier. The meat birds eat different feed than the egg birds and do not need any scratch or oyster shells. It should also save a few dollars too. So in support of this effort, a neighbor gave us a new feeder for the meat birds!

It looks like it will hold about 150 pounds of feed so we should only have to refill it once or maybe twice.

Then Mrs Inor ordered a cage for them.

Having only done two small batches of meat chickens so far, neither one of us has enough experience to know what we really want for a cage. So if this one lasts for 2-3 years then falls apart we will have gotten our money out of it. And by then we will know what works and what doesn't.
