View Full Version : Dehydrating canned goods

I needed to open up some shelf space and decided to try dehydrating some canned tomato goods. Works really well.

Tomato sauce - I had six cans that now fit in a jelly jar. 3 1/2 Tablespoons equal one can (14.5 oz.). I used one and a half cups of near boiling water to rehydrate.

Diced tomatoes - a 14.5 oz. can dehydrate down to 1/3 cup. I used a cup of near boiling water to rehydrate just because I liked them thicker.

Diced tomatoes with hot peppers - a 10 oz. can dehydrates down to 1/4 cup.

Tomato paste - a 6 oz. can dehydrates down to 3 Tablespoons.

Tomato soup dehydrates down to a heaping 1/4 cup. I rehydrated it with a cup of boiling water. Tastes pretty good but since I usually make it with milk it wasn't as good. Sometime I will try it using dry milk.

I put the tomato sauce and the paste and the soup through the food processor to get it all powdered. So measurements for those are after they were pulverized.

I have dehydrated canned veggies and they all came out well. Frozen veggies work too.

Opened up a whole shelf for storage.

I wonder if just looking has seen this yet? I will have to ask her when I go into work. Thanks for the info.
