I look at silver as something of real, universal-ish, value.
Kinda like some of my tools, but mostly my skills.
If some guy(Strat) is haulin' his goods in a wheelbarrow (gunkid anyone?), and the wheel falls off, I can fix that. "I just take this much of yer stuff".
Silver is a pretty well accepted medium of trade.
Lead,
Brass,
Tools,
Silver,
Skills,
Etc...

Gold, silver, bitcoin, whatever, if its shtf, and don't have it on you or accessible in short order? I been going round and round on this. You want to trade what you have lots of to someone who doesn't, but needs it, hoping he has lots of what you need but you don't. What are the odds? So you each can make a deal. Does this make any sense? Or am I thinking all wrong? Kinda shrinks the world down to local stuff don't it?

Good to have stuff of value, but to who, and at the right time. I get too deep in this shit at times, a wonder I ain't gone crazy.

Precious metals are good, sometimes not. I bought Lead 25lb for $62, 2 years ago. Today I can buy it for $47.99 shipped, if I order over $50, so buy 2?.

Sometimes I buy quarters from the bank just to look for silver. Now I can just take them to the Post, instead of back to the bank. Any Silver coin will pay for :beerchug:

Almost everyone will need more 22LR ammo. Good trading material if you can defend what you have. There'll always be someone ready to kill you for what you have and they want.
