Just thought I would share that I "really" like the model years 1998 - 2002 when factory porting was offered as an option. I've collected and shot many and to-date I have never come across a bad one. I own one or more in each of the following models and calibers.

1895G 45/70

1895GS 45/70

1895M Marlin 450

444P 444 Marlin

I'm considering having an 1895M modified to the Alaskan 50. Here is a pic of some of the collection. They are quick on target, excellent in brushy country with an 18.5" barrel. Since I reload for each I'm able to modify rounds for multiple game or situations from mild to wild. I prefer straight cased cartridges so all of my guns utilize that type of round from 38 special to my 458 Winchester mag. If you have a question regarding a Marlin Guide gun don't hesitate to send me a pm or post here. I would recommend staying with JM proof marked Marlins versus the newer REM marked Remington made Marlins. Basically anything after 2010 is a REM.
