So I've had the bug to own a Buck 119 for quite a while. I like big knives and the 119 generally fits that description. So after a comment in another thread I finally broke down and started searching for one. A new one was a bit out of my price range so I started searching ebay for a used one in decent shape. What I found was this one which cost me a whopping $22.77. Yeah it's had a rough life but there's nothing wrong with the knife that I can't work out on a buffing wheel. The sheath looks like it was run over by a truck but no issue there I'll just make myself a new one. I will say that it only took a few strokes on a strop for this thing to be a razor so whoever had it before me had some idea what they were doing when it comes to sharpening. So with a little love I can restore this old knife to it's former glory. This one going by the date code was built between 1972-1986. I'll get some after pictures once I'm done cleaning it up.

I like fairly big knives as well.
I got my 119 about 10 years ago at the Ace Hardware in town. At that time they were $59.99

Congratulations, you did good!

Mrs Inor and I each have a 119 in our GHBs. Those are great knives and if you got one for less than $30... damn!

You are going to enjoy cleaning her up. And then you can really brag about the knife. As for the sheath, I know it will be a fun project for you. Can't wait to see the pics when it is all done.

The sheath has been completed and is posted in my leatherworking thread. Clean up on it is pretty well finished and it's got a razor edge on it. There's still some scratches but overall it cleaned up pretty well and I'm happy with it. The handle on it oddly enough is in excellent shape compared to the rest of the knife and sheath.

Of course!! The mind is the first thing to go. I remember now looking at those pics just the other day. Really nice stuff. As I think I have mentioned before, there is just something about fine leather that makes me spend overbudget. :beerchug:

The 4 signs of old age:

1 - You forget names

2 - You forget faces

3 - You forget to zip up your fly

4 - You forget to zip down your fly

Just sayin'... :biglaugh:

I dug mine out of the drawer after reading this post and put a razor edge on it. I forgot what a great blade this one is! I may have to get an Infidel sheath for it cause the new ones like mine are junk.

They're only 50 bucks on amazon, just checked. Still made in USA, only as I've mentioned, the sheath is junk.

Mine sharpened up really well as well. I don't know how well it'll hold an edge but it was no mean feat to put an edge on it so it should be pretty easy to maintain it. The sheath I made for mine is quickly becoming my favorite sheath of all of my knives. I love the color of it (Thanks again Mrs. Inor) and I find myself looking for reasons to put it on my belt. I fire steel loop might make it just a little better but truthfully I think I'd rather have that separate from the knife sheath or maybe stashed in a pouch on the back of the sheath. That's something to think about on the next one I suppose.
