We have made soap a few times. But we did not make the lye. I just bought some drain cleaner from the hardware store that is something like 99.7% lye. For the fat, we have used bacon grease as well as olive oil. The olive oil works really well. Next I am going to try making it from milk.

The crock pot is pretty slick too those are easily picked up all summer at yard sales
