Using buckets (and other similar containers) can solve your typical gardening problems such as young plants getting trampled, rabbits eating your plants, poor soil, hard rains, weeds taking over your garden, and ease of daily care in general. Also, you can arrange your plants throughout the day for the plants that require full sun or for the plants that need partial shade. Many vegetables can actually thrive in buckets. The most common sized bucket that most gardeners use is 5 gallons.

Right on time, Hawg!Up here in da north we've got some more wait time.

I like the bucket tators idea. I don't have room in my small plot but with buckets it may be possible.

Mrs Inor found some kind of flower planters that fit over the top of the rail on our deck. She grows a lot of herbs in those. It works pretty well.

I planted a couple cucumbers, yesterday. Gonna put out some peppers in a bit before I go to work.

Using containers like stock tanks, 1/4 whiskey barrel containers, etc.

I feel good about this year. Then again, I felt that way a couple years ago.

Me too. It's funny because this winter has not been too bad in terms of snow and cold. But I have complained more this year than all of the other winters combined.

Container gardening has worked out really well for me. Especially for tomatoes and peppers. We generally use Terra cotta pots but 5 gallon buckets work just as good.

We had yet another snow free year. I had to scrape ice off the windshield a few times.

I don't mind the seasons. It is the extreme seasons I can do without. 90+ and humid in the summer and -30 in the winter is getting pretty ****ing old!

what about bush plants such as raspberries ?
I read the roots can be a real pain in the bum and that the roots can break free in large buckets and even barrels in a short time is this true? I was planning using wood barrels for a few thornless ones

I like the idea of moving them around with out digging and making a mess that why was thinking barrels.
long I on barrels and bucket subject can horseradish , ginger and maybe ginseng be grown in barrels or due to the space the roots can grow better off using a wall underground and above ? or can a kiddie pool work?

Clearly, we do not get the extreme winters here in Alabama, but the summers are brutal. I survive the summers so I can enjoy the winters.

It's not over 'till it's over. A couple days ago it hit 60 here. Last night, this morning there were snow squalls, even thunder snow at 3AM this morning. No wonder the mrs and I have been sick the last 2 weeks.
