Got the invite from Inor and Hawgrider to ditch PF and come aboard so many of you may already know me. What to say for those that don't....?

Middle aged, overweight, white, male, married with kids and a dog. Originally from East Texas (What part? - All of it.), but now living North of Phoenix AZ in a quaint little community called Cave Creek. I'm also a licensed amateur radio operator - KG7NDC. Looking to level up to Gen soon.

Primary interests are bush-craft and life hacks that can be put to use for an immediate return on investment and also in the form of prepping for an uncertain future. Professionally, I am a Project Manager and Process Improvement Specialist with a specialization in Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity.

Welcome aboard. If this is your first visit here you will find we have the same interests in preps, survival and hacks but we are a helluva lot more fun and we don't play corporate money games with a forum where good people hang out. Look around and have some fun for a change. Glad to have you here. Jump in any time.

Welcome my friend!

I do not think I mentioned this on the green site, but Mrs Inor and I are in the process of becoming your neighbors. Well, sort of. We are presently getting our house ready to sell mid-summer for a move to very rural Cochise County, AZ.

You will find OTP more laid back than the corporatists at the green site. Discussion about preps and guns and HAM are more than welcome here. But so are you latest and greatest BBQ and canning recipes. And of course politics. Consider us more of a "life hacks" site for the self-sufficient redneck hillbilly types.

Again welcome!

Not sure we crossed paths over on PF. I bailed from there about a year and a half ago during the big stink. I didn't like all the favoritism crap that was going on.

None of that here -- we all hate each other. :dancingguy:

Yeah, we bought some of it when the bottom fell out in 2009 as retirement property. I had a well drilled a year later to make sure there was water; there is. Now that property is finally selling MN again, we are going to pull the trigger and get down there ASAP!

What is going on over there? I do not check in there regularly, but it seems a LOT of folks are really pissed off but I cannot figure what it is about.

Of course we welcome you here, but I do not want to make the same mistakes.

What is going on? Nothing. Nada. Zip. Zilch. Same place it always was.

Only difference is that it was formerly owned by a company known as Forum Foundry and they just recently sold it to Vertical Scope. On 05/04/16, the new owners announced they had acquired Prepper Forum from Forum Foundry. Had it been a Nissan Titan Forum, 5.0 Mustang Forum, Wood Working Forum, or Garage / Man Cave Forum, they probably would have been heralded in with open arms and welcome smiles.

But since it is a bunch of preppers who are more than naturally suspicious about any new interlopers - but especially evil overlord, establishment, with the ability to track IP addresses and scan cookies and what not - people got a little uneasy. They are afraid that it is now a corporate tool to market products to you. And it is. But it always was. Any time you participate and pay no money - YOU are the product. So they are selling ads and getting revenue just like Forum Foundry was. No biggie.

But some have used it as an excuse to hop over here. I'm still happy with PF - but it isn't perfect. It has (in the last 18 mos) moved away from true skills and prepping to more political and religious gritching. There are some things I wished they would do differently like require 10 posts before you post for sale. I also wished they would scan and approve your first 5 messages. And I wish they would take a more active mod / admin role at steering unproductive threads back around to something on-topic. I'm not leaving there. Not yet anyway. But now that I'm here I'm sure I'll naturally gravitate towards the one that I get more out of.

We will be about 6-8 miles due west of Sun Sites. The back of the house we are going to build will be looking up into the Cochise Stronghold (west) in the Dragoon Mountains.

Edit: When we get there, I am hoping I might hit you up for some recommendations on things like a new insurance agent and a new CPA, etc. :biglaugh:

Just shy of 5000. Before we bought the place, we went down for a couple weeks in July to see if we could handle the heat and the monsoons. It wasn't too bad. It would get into the high 90's every afternoon, but it was tolerable if you stayed out of the sun and it cooled off nice in the evenings.

This year we went down for a couple weeks at the end of November and beginning of December and the only thing that surprised us was the evenings got into the 10's at night. Obviously, that is no big deal for a couple of Minnesotans, but I expect we will be bitching about it in a few years. Plus, it was still warming up to the 60's during the day.

That is pretty good all around weather. Kind of reminds me of Billings Mt in the summer. Gets into the low 90s in the daytime, but little humidity and cools off to upper 50s at night.

When we get there, I am hoping I might hit you up for some recommendations on things like a new insurance agent and a new CPA, Insurance agent, we had Farmers, we had a wildfire, we are now with USAA, we don't need no stinking CPA.

A couple of questions for you Rancher...

With the mine closed, how does anything stay in business in Bisbee? It seems like a fairly good sized small town, but I cannot see where they do anything beside a bunch of hippie art shops and have the courthouse?

When we were down there last fall we heard a rumor that they were opening one of those "The Villages" retirement communities in Benson. Is that true? We heard they were planning on bring in 25,000 people! If true, I am going to open a discrete STD clinic when we get there!

With the mine closed, how does anything stay in business in Bisbee? It seems like a fairly good sized small town, but I cannot see where they do anything beside a bunch of hippie art shops and have the courthouse?Yes it is the County Seat, and yes things were tough when the mine closed, it is still in "maintenance mode", it is a tourist meca, it was the largest town between Saint Louis and San Francisco it has lots of antique stores, good eating (Bisbee Breakfast Club in the old JC Penny building, Cafe La Roca for high class and fairly cheap) Lots of B&B's... it's a tourist town now, although some of the Feds that work at Ft. Huachuca live there, unlike Tombstone the Town that didn't know when to die, Bisbee will live on forever.

When we were down there last fall we heard a rumor that they were opening one of those "The Villages" retirement communities in Benson. Is that true? I have not heard it was a retirement community, it is within commuting distance of Tucson, yes I heard it was 25,000 homes, of course in Arizona that is a negotiating point, water being the main problem for that development, that will be bargained down, and of course only a few thousand homes every 10 years will ever be build, ... Kind of like Sunsites, you see how well it got developed!

Okay, I think I set it right. I am pretty new to this Admin stuff so if I screwed you up just give a shout. It was certainly not on purpose. :biglaugh:

Yeah, it happens. I was the #1 poster at prepperforums until I called out an admin for lying to a member. Those morons even banned my wife because she was married to me! :biglaugh: Meh. The owner of this site only started it because he was banned from every "decent" forum on the internet. That is basically why all of us ended up here. This is a good place.

The only reason there have not been a whole lot of prepper posts here is because we have all known each other for years (literally). We have exchanged most of the prepper info we have. We should get some new blood to spark those conversations up again so we do not get stale.
