Hi

From Southeastern Ohio. I like to garden, can grill and smoke almost forgot to shoot! Hawg invited me over as I have been asking a lot of questions about smoking meats and veggies. I make my own salsa and just last year smoked jalapenos to grind into a spice. Next project is to smoke and grind so homegrown garlic. Thanks for the invite Hawg!!!

I have other plans this year for different peppers. I plan to do a ghost pepper and also a Scorpion pepper powder also. Not for me but for some that like it extra hot. It just depends on how my crop of peppers does as you know it takes a lot of peppers to make a small amount of powder. I will be smokin' jalapenos probably by the end of the weekend. I have about 5 lbs almost ready. I also do a bread and butter pickles with jalapeno.

Ghost peppers are pretty good in my pickled eggs. They have a unique flavor that I can detect (minus the heat) in the eggs.
I have never eaten a ghost pepper though. To much pain being that hot. So far the favorite smoked pepper powder with my clan is the Mexican bell pepper and the Hungarian hots. The jalapeņo can vary in heat depending how ripe they are.

Hi Broncosfan,
Definitely will find the BBQ stuff here. Mrs TJC lived in Denver for a time. Did you move here from there, or adopt them?

I lived in Colorado Spring 1979-1982 I think and the orange got into my blood. Only been back once in '87. All Broncos. But I don't judge a man by the team he pulls for except if they change teams every year. I'm a fan through the good and the bad!!

Welcome from a soon-to-be ex-Minnesotan. (But I will always be a Vikings and Twins fan.)

Smoked jalapenos are the bomb! Just make sure you have a coffee grinder dedicated to grinding your peppers! DO NOT USE THE ONE YOU USE FOR COFFEE!!! :biglaugh:

Smoked coffee is also good. And there is no better way to eat a baked potato than oozing with smoked butter!

Although I haven't tried it myself I was told to run sugar through your coffee grinder and it would take care of cleaning it of the pepper.

I understand rice will do that also. But it is good to have a grinder dedicated to spices.

Right now I'm a stay @ home Dad. Moved to Ohio built our house with help. Have a son on the autism spectrum and spending a lot of time trying to get him back into college or some other schooling so that he will have some kind of future. I also garden and do a lot of home canning.

So far all I have used it for is peppers. Although I plan to smoke some garlic that I pulled up a few weeks ago and them grind it up also. Since we don't drink coffee much its not used for anything except the spices I have ground.

Mrs. Inor thanks for the tip on the rice its cheaper and I can try both to see what works the best. By the way how did you ever do with the soap you were going to make?

MrsInor
07-06-2016, 09:34 PM
Soap turned out fine. Gave some to the kids and they seemed to like it. I am anxious to get to AZ and get back to the "goat lady" I really like her goat milk soap.

I have an Aunt that makes soap using sheep milk I really can't expain it but it seems to latter more and somewhat richer than goats milk but she does it all. She is fantastic with her soaps.

How about ice cream? Yeah but if you live in Georgia your sick of peaches and need a new spin on them.

Everything tastes good without smoke. The smoke only adds to the spice of life to enhance the flavors already there.

Vanilla Ice cream with smoked peaches now we are getting somewhere!

We have smoked both potatoes and corn. Both are good, but I do prefer to wrap the corn in loose foil first to tame down the smoke a little bit. Otherwise, you cannot taste the corn.

I thought you or Duck smoked some cashews once?

I thought you or Duck smoked some cashews once?Yup we both did cashews and almonds. I didn't care for the almonds until they were about a month old but the cashews were very good.

I agree about the corn on cobb it gets strong quick. I will try your proposed method of loose foil until the end.

A baked smoked potato I have not done. Its on the short list though.
