Well now that the summer heat is upon us I figured I'd remind us of this little bit of info.

I'm sure the toolbox on my truck has been seeing Temps of 120+ for weeks now as it sit out in the sun. I keep my ghb in there and it has some lifeboat rations and an MRE in it. That MRE has been in there for at least 8 months.
Great point! I have some Mountain House in my GHB in my truck. Although it does not get as hot here as it does in TX, I'm sure it is still north of 100. Even though it is freeze dried, I should probably eat that one and get a new one.

This is a good reminder for any type of food kept in GHB's, etc.
We don't keep MRE's, but we do have some nutrition bars etc, and I forgot all about them. :(

Yep, Maybe it' time to rotate my bars as well. I keep my GHB in the truck under the back seat but it still gets hot. This will be the second summer so it's time. Thanks for the reminder Ark.

I think we should have a giveaway. I am thinking of donating my MRE to the Democratic National Convention for their tireless efforts. They will need lots of food to feed all those folks they will be bussing in so I think we should do our part as we replace our rancid rations. Err, I mean delicious food..

I have eaten as many MRE's as the next soldier and they are a good meal.
In my GHB I use these:

I switched to lifeboat rations in my ghb as well. Different brand but the same thing. Have you tried them?

Only as a test and I didn't eat the whole thing, I'm 6 foot 4 inches and plod along around 205 pounds so I don't need the calories, but they were palatable.
If I had a comparison I would say the old C-Ration maple cake is about as close as I could call it. (or was it the MRE maple cake)
Gah! it escapes me.
