This Do It Yourself project will should you how easy it is to turn a simple sapling from a local hardwood tree into a useful tool called a Survival Gig. The tool features four uniquely shaped tines (similar to a trident) that are sharpened and used to capture a wide variety of small-sized game animals.

You know, some people don't know to sharpen the tines by cutting away from the soft center core side. The outer edges are the hardest part (minus the bark and new growth area just inside the bark)...and fire harden by placing near the fire but avoiding getting any burn marks...just a brownish darkening, Makes the tip more durable.
