Look for its distinctive spiny, burr-like heads. Burdock is a biennial plant — the best time to harvest the root is during the fall of the first year, when the plant has large leaves that are green on top and grayish underneath, or during the spring of the second year.

I used to think we had it growing all over. Further research and I found out what I thought was burdock is actually Thistle. Somewhat easy to mix up I guess. Thistle is a good plant too.

The leaves are different.

Wow! Amazingly close to the same thing. I don't think we have it here, just the thistle.
and the Thistle has stickers on the stem.
