VW Settlement

With the most recent news that VW has reached a settlement to either buy back their 'flawed' vehicles or repair them, I wondered what would happen to the purchased ones. I would guess they will be repaired, probably at the local dealerships and sold. Nothing concrete yet, but the 'flaw' was just in the emissions test, not in the performance and they are 'sturdy' diesel vehicles. Combine the 'pre-owned' status and the horrible name many models will have now, they might be a good deal (or might not)

Any thoughts on this?

I actually almost bought a diesel jetta a year or two ago. I wanted it for the great mileage. After research I discovered that you can't really work on them yourself, and I won't own a vehicle that I can't work on. So I gave up on em. Plus, they're kinda gay. So there's that too. But you could probably get a good deal on one.

The Mighty VW is not what it used to be. I've had several VWs over the years, and the newer ones are not anywhere near the quality of the Older ones. I owned a Jetta I, II, and III with the II being the best built of all of them. I wouldn't have a new one as a gift after the headaches I had with the wife's Jetta III.

Buy American Made not American owned. I would rather put my fellows to work than employ those in a factory abroad.

I agree. My friends give me crap for buying Toyotas. All of the Toyotas I bought have been made in the US by Americans while similar Fords, GM, and Dodge vehicles are made out of the country. I do not care where the profits go. After all, it does not do me much good to line the Ford family's pockets when they employ people in Canada or Mexico.

2/3 of my vehicles were made in Canada, the other was made in Mexico. All US manufacturers, or at least were at the time.

Two Dodges and a Ford (Charger, Ram, CVPI) not a single one made in the US, go figure.

If you want American made, get a Passat, they are made here in Chattanooga, or a Nissan from up the road in TN, or a BMW from the Greenville, SC plant.

The wife wants to get the buy-back on her VW TDI Jetta, I keep telling her that it's worth more if it's not fixed (no emissions testing here).

But no... first she wanted a Jeep, now it's an F250, and I can sell my 1993 F350 (460 gas) and in trade I get her 2004 (6.0 diesel)... I think I lose out in this trading deal!

Just to stir the pot, the cars that are built in Mexico are being built by Mexicans that are NOT trying to sneak into the U.S. :biglaugh: That being said, my truck was made in Dearborn, MI and Mrs Inor's was made in Rockfish, Ill-annoyed.

The ones I talked to at the automotive plant there had a . . . desire to get into the US no matter what, but they could not leave Mexico yet as they had governmental obligations.
