I saw this product to easily produce firewood kindling and thought it be quite ingenious for a gimmick thing. Its called the Kindling Cracker. (AS I watched the video I couldn't help but wonder if they make a Kindling Niggger, or a Kindling Spic or a Kindling GoatPhucker...

I don't like the price, but I do like the product.

That's a pretty cool idea. I'm thinking a welder and a lil redneck engineering could save you quite a bit for one of those.

I've heard of people putting a cut log into an old tire and chopping multiple times to produce smaller logs/kindling. But theres no way I'd buy the Kindling Cracker retail.

We've got a country gas station about 5 miles away that sells boxes 18"x24" of Southern Pine Fat Wood/Starter Wood (Wood from a Southern Yellow Pine that has a heavy concentration of resin/sap) for 12.99. 1 box lasts me a year/season but I've filled up a small galvanized garbage can with the fat wood so we're covered for a long time. The smell is wonderful when you open the galvanized can.

Slippy, it sells on the net for way more than that. maybe you could make a profit in the middle?
I am like you, I wouldn't give ten bucks for the cracker, I could make one.
I also have seen the tire method, I don't have a wood stove.

I'm no good at metalworking/welding, but $90 is a little high for my tastes. I bet it wouldn't be 'too bad' to make a homebrew version.

I'm willing to bet that the kindling niggger won't WORK!
Pretty sure they would accept some form of assistance though!lol

There is nothing like the smell of cut lighter knot. I have logs and logs of the stuff. Its the old fence posts from when I bought the property. I re-built all the fence, and saved the old lighter knot posts. My kids kids will have lighter knot to use. Anyway, I absolutely love the smell of the stuff when I'm splintering it.

And the Kindling Spic will steal somebody else's kindling and bring it to you.

But in all seriousness, anybody that cannot split off 12-15 pieces of kindling from a log with a Buck knife in 10 minutes or less deserves to die of hypothermia.
