I have a small collection of Zippos and just started carrying them again after many years of retirement. I missed the sound and the smell of lighting a smoke with one. Its kinda like cleaning your guns with Hoppes #9 it one of those smells that bring back memories.

The RubberDuck saw me pull one out to light up the other day and hooked me up with the official Zippo case. Pretty cool always wanted one but for reason unknown never bought one.

Best part about one of these cases is no more accidental overfill leg burn. :biglaugh:

Thank RubberDuck!

ZIPPO DATE CODES

DATE CODES

As with most collectibles, the date of manufacture of a Zippo lighter often affects its value. Valuable information on the bottom of every Zippo windproof lighter can help you determine its date of manufacture. Starting in the mid 50’s, date codes were stamped on the bottom. The original purpose was for quality control. The date codes have since become an invaluable tool for Zippo collectors. Most lighters fabricated between 1933 and 1957 can be identified by style and model and the patent or patent-pending marks.

The appearance of the word "Zippo" in the bottom stamp provides another clue to dating. There have been three major changes, as show in inset. From 1933 to the mid 50s, the word Zippo was stamped in block letters. The Zippo script logo was developed in the late 40s and was phased-in on the lighter bottom stamp around 1955. In the late 70s the logo was redesigned. It was incorporated into the bottom stamp in 1980.

What began as a quality-control tool for Zippo founder George G. Blaisdell has become a collector’s dream. To identify a potential pattern in any run of lighters returned for repair, the bottom of every Zippo lighter was encoded with a series of markings. Since the 1950s, those markings provide a way to accurately date most Zippo lighters. The world-famous guarantee that It works or we fix it free™ still covers every Zippo windproof pocket lighter today. If your Zippo lighter needs repair, send via a trackable method to Zippo Repair Clinic, 1932 Zippo Drive, Bradford, PA 16701

I'm more into Hershey bars, . . . and Zippo's don't really do them justice like they did the Camel straights prior to '85.

But thanks for the info, . . .

May God bless,
Dwight

Zippos are cool, I love seeing people's collections. I have one that belonged to my grandfather that he carried in the service buried somewhere. It's just the plain old silver one. If I can dig it up I'd like to check the date on it. Thanks for the info.

Thats a Hamer Ecotone. I play it on a 1968 Fender Bassman 50 tube amp that sits on a 1974 Fender 2-12" Bottom With a "Rat" distortion pedal if needed and a holy grail reverb pedal. Also have the Digitech processor plugged into the mix

I'm not familiar with that. I stopped playing about 6-8 yrs ago. Had several accoustical guitars over the years. My first was a concert body Fender. That guitar went many many miles with me.

I need a quality Acoustic.

All I have in the acoustic area is a Oscar Schmidt (made by Washburn) and a camp guitar Ibanez beater doesnt matter if it gets left out in the rain camp guitar LOL The camp guitar I leave tuned in open G for slide playing.

Why did you stop playing?

Your killing me Hawg. Your Ibanez is a camp beater?? Oh the injustice!
I got bored with the same old songs...and not remembering songs I used to play. Just wasn't into it anymore.

LOL the Ibanez was a junk sale find. its a cheepo $25.00 the frets will slice your hands the workmanship is crap. its a low end Ibanez.

I too go thru stages of boredom with the same ole tunes so I started writing and making up my own stuff. I can't play cover tunes like the stars anyway I play them so they are slightly recognizable but.... I still suck after after 15+plus maybe almost 17 years ?( lost track) years of playing. I'm still trying to just be a campfire player LMAO!

Only on a rare occasion.

I usually carry a torch lighter because of the wind proof abilities. And man do they start fires!

After reading you have the torch I looked up on Ebay for shits an giggles and yes they sell a conversion kit for the old lighters.
I might pick one up.
Now that I don't smoke I never have a lighter when I need one and I need one often I like torch lighters and might revive my old Zippo.

If you are gonna use it for EDC I recommend using top self butane. It will keep the lighter working without clogging the jet.

I use Xikar Purofine.
