The design is incomplete, as stated in many comments. There is no catch tray or provision to catch coals and embers other than letting them fall on the wooden base ... or yer feet in da flip flops!

True. I'd just add an old pizza pan cut to fit, with a little sand on it, underneath or in place of the bottom rack.

OK....so this one isn't free of welding, but another style.
Simple angle stock for legs and supports, expanded metal on the shelves and the inside grate (not shown).
The lid....is a street sign. and the vents are sections of curved muffler pipe. This thing weighs a ton. So it will surely outlast me. I bought it off a friend of mine that was clearing out a storage unit. My only complaint is that the depth to the cooking surface to the bottom of the lid isn't very much. Otherwise.....it has cooked some awesome mesquite shrimp and some steaks. :eyebrows:
