I have a male dog in my pack that is exhibiting much appreciated guard dog-like behavior. He's stout and his tail is cropped to boot. I want to hang a 30 foot chain off of him on out walks. Build him up into a beast. My wife tells me that it's animal cruelty. I disagree. I figure that it will make him into an intimidating beast. Which is what I want. NOT for fighting. Do yall think chain drag training is cruel and inhumane?

OK serious now. If your wife has an issue with that method simply out smart her and put one of those doggie backpacks on the pooch and put some bar bell weights in the pack?

This. Worked great on my boxer. She got stout and ripped.

Ark,
Get a weighted vest or a dog back pack.

I think the guys have a good idea with the weighted back pack. That way you can add weight gradually. Also you might consider building him a cart/harness rig with the same purpose. Swimming and hills are beneficial too.
How old is he?

Why does this make me think of the tractor pulls at the fair?
How about 2 dogs tied together doing a tug of war?
