After all the rain and mud this winter, and nearly buying the entire rock quarry, I have finally got my yearling heifers moved to some good grass, with no mud in sight.....YET!

I have the exact opposite problem. We haven't had rain in months. My pastures are turning to dust. I had to start buying hay for fear the herd was going to starve. I'm glad to see things looking up for you, Hag.

View from my office window (aka tractor cab) as the sun went down. Nice to stop and think sometimes how lucky we are, even poor dumb, country boys like me

I've been hearing about brush fires popping up down there. Anything near you?

There were seven separate wild fires in my tiny county 3 days ago. Luckily, they were all in brushland areas, and not near any houses. Unfortunately, I fear that it is just a matter of time before they get worse, if we don't get some rain.

We've been on burn ban for a few weeks off and on. Even with the rain we just had, it's still banned. Had a good sized brush fire last weekend about five miles from me, but they got it under control without calling forestry in.

My yard is still covered in snow. But we're expecting 50's & 60's this week, so that will be gone soon.

It IS still February however.
All 28 days of it!

Shit. 60s and 70s down here. Ticks and parasites will be horrible this year, not to mention skeeters.

It was close to 80 here today, with a nice breeze. There was a cloud that blew through this morning. But, it was not a big cloud; not even big enough to block the sun.

I am drooling at all that beef! One of our neighbors has several large herds, but I don't go down that road anymore. It's hard to look at all that beef I can't afford!
Nope, your the smart one.

The valve has been closed the last few days and we've been blessed with sunny and 75. Almost 80 tomorrow they say.

Got a little rain yesterday. Not enough, but some is better than none.

I don't know if I would say smart. I will physically put my hands on (and sometimes in) almost two thousand head a year and still can't afford to buy a steak dinner. I sell black and buy a couple jerseys every year to eat because they are so much cheaper. I will put them in with a pen of feeders for a while and then pull them out and finish in a barn stall on grain only. We have talked about keeping a black steer for beef but the money just ain't worth it. My wife jokes and says she will be glad when the shit hits the fan so we can finally eat an angus steak lol.

My husband thinks the Jersey's are better tasting beef than the Angus. IDK.
I can't believe how high a feeder calf is now. About 8 yrs ago we could have bought one for $75. Someday...

I like the Jersey alot, not much of them though, and slooowwww growing, which makes them a little harder to marble well.
You can buy a three day old bottle baby around here right now for around $75.

Really? That would be a Jersey, right? I've been watching prices around here, and haven't seen any that cheap.
Not sure how Chester (our horse) will be around a cow. Sunday, a neighbors Llama got in our pasture, and it scared the hell out of Chester! He didn't want to get anywhere near it!! So funny to see a 1200lb horse who is normally a bully to other equine, being afraid of a 300 lb Llama.
