Preppers, let’s take a few minutes and talk about stockpiling cord. For the sake of discussion, let’s focus on cord that is 3/16 inches in diameter and less.
Chances are if a prepper is stockpiling cord, it is 550 cord. 550 is good stuff and everyone should have some on hand. However, it is not like you can go somewhere in a small town and buy a spool of it. Also, we do not always need something with a rating of 550 pounds. Sometimes we just need a piece of small Cord to do a little something with.
The vast majority of cord I use around around the farm is trotline string. It is sold in a wide range of breaking strength options and various colors, such as black, green and white. The green trotline string I stockpile has a rating of 330 pounds and is three twisted strands.
Unlike 550 cord, trotline string is a small version of twisted rope. Because of this, http://www.alloutdoor.com/2017/03/14/preppers-stockpiling-cord/

When I was growing up we had horses.... so we also had hay.
We used the bailing twine for everything.

I stockpile 550 cord just out of habit. It is sold in the Lowes and Home Depot here locally.
Everything can be fixed with 550 cord and enough duct tape.

I wouldn't say that I am "stockpiling", per se, but I do seem to have a lot of it around. 550 paracord, mason's line, rolls of rope, both nylon and natural-fiber. It just seems that I have a lot of the stuff around, but it wasn't on purpose.

My immediate family has 600 feet of 550 cord between our bug out bags. I will stock a little more more at our bug out location, but I will not go crazy. I also have a spool of bank line there in addition to 200 feet 1/2" diameter polypropylene, and 50 feet of fire department RIC rope. I also have a few pulleys, ect. I do need need to get Prussex (spelling) cord.

I've got heaps of that stuff in my barn. I end up using it for tying things up in the garden.

Yep.
Its a lil different than a corn mash but it will run yer genset.
Add a lil lye and itll run yer tractor.
Add a lil NPK 40-40-40 and itll... clean out the fencerows.
Im not sayin its good or advised BTW

Absolutely! Anyone can do it. if you have a weber grill or what ever. Fire up a grill add some soaked in water wood chips of your choice on the charcoal briquettes and melt the ice cubes then re freeze and enjoy. Don't forget to tell the wife to try them in soups stews and chili as Arklatex said.
