I have a Caribiner attached to each shoulder strap (one has a set of Ranger beads). A CAT tourniquet is mounted to my left hand waist strap, and a walkie talkie pouch on the right hand side.

This side pouch contains 5 TI 25 magazines for my 10/22, safety glasses, one 1 quart canteen, and gun maintenance kit. Fiskars X7 Hatchet packed behind pocket.

I normally leave my pack with the lid open as I do not want to compress anything (sleeping bag, clothing, etc). It is also a reminder to throw the last few things inside, and I have a short checklist of those items I need to pack which are stored next to my bag.

The side pouches look like Condor H2O pockets. Those are nice quality and cheap. They also have the option of accepting a strap. I would recommend attaching a small strap made out of 550 cord to each pouch. If the main pack has to be ditched, you can grab the pouches with the already attached straps. The 550 cord can be tucked out of the way until it is needed. Just my opinion.

Thanks Kfilly, I have the same Drago bag in my truck's interior, along with a Drago duffel bag in the bed that is secured by a locked fiberglass bed topper.

I know you were also looking at a small cook pot. The 24 ounce Stanley Pot I reviewed a few days ago will fit into a Condor H2O Pouch. You will have to remove the handle to get it to fit. The handle comes off by squeezing it at the base and the twisting it out of the mounting brackets. If you were looking to pack that stove in that pouch, I would recommend getting a cheap storage bag. Wal-Mart sells a set of three in their camping section. The bag will protect the pouch from getting torn by the pot and make it easier to get the pot out. The pot also nests over a Guyot Designs (Nalgene) Backpackers 32 ounce Canteen so you can also carry water with your stove if that is your intention.

The Condor Pouch also has a small pocket on the front. It is good for storing something like an Altoids fire kit, multitool, the pot handle, and a small amount of cordage.
