My family and I own 3
I have a cold steel Latin american machete
My wife has a cold steel Thai two handed machete
My 12 year old has a ( my old one) harbor freight 3.99 with coupon ten years ago machete.

I have used all 3 and they are all about the same as far as blade quality goes ... And the most expensive one was $25
They all have they're individual blade styles and uses. But out of those three I still prefer a shorter one for travel
.... In my experience both bushwhacking and home gardening I have seldom times needed more than an 18" blade.

I have one that I made out of an industrial hacksaw blade, it's about 16 inches long and fit's in my backpack. I have a few more, but this one gets the most use.

I prefer the ~24" sizes for the most part. My father had a 24" Collins for a while in the Army during WWII until an officer 'requisitioned' it since it was not authorized carry. He was never able to get that one back, or get another one. I always wanted a real Collins, but never got one.

I do have the Cold Steel 24" Latin, and an old junker no name 18" that has been used and abused for 40 years, but can still take an edge. The plastic handle is held together with duct tape (now using Gorilla tape). But I really want to add a couple of Cold Steel 24" Cutlass machetes and a couple of 24" Latin-D machetes. I am probably too old, and not flexible enough to pick up a technique I used to practice, that I have learned is called gatka, as used by the Sikhs. Sure would like to try again, though, just for the coolness factor. And... well... you never know...

I have a Harbor Freight brand machete that has been great for yard work. Dirt cheap and can still hold an edge . . . I also don't have to worry too much about abusing it
