I was out banging around on the web yesterday and I happened across a news story about the coffee farms in Brazil. Apparently, they are having a bad cold snap there which is killing a lot of the coffee trees. So it seems likely that coffee will be going up in price significantly in the next year or so.
Since I have not bought any beans for a few years, I thought it might be prudent to just top off our supply of green beans while they are still somewhat cheap. When I buy green coffee beans, I usually buy them 200-300 pounds at a time to get the per-pound price down. They come in 50 pound burlap sacks and do not require any special packaging to store; literally just throw the sacks on a shelf and keep them dry. They last forever without spoiling.
As I said, the last time I ordered was about 3-4 years ago and I paid around $5.50 per pound for Columbian. Now, it is already up to $7.71 per pound and they do not even offer the 50# bags anymore! (I may call them and see if they can't shave a little more off the price if I order a few hundred pounds, but damn.)

If you need your morning coffee to be productive, now might be a good time to put some extra back because I think prices are going to get ugly in the next several months.
Edit: This place seems to have MUCH better prices.
