Lol...we have a donkey too. I may have forgotten to mention that part
I really believe the spindle should be harder than soft. It seems like the biggest issue I would have was due to a soft spindle that would get eaten up by the socket and then it would start to bind....

I started getting my winter wood ready, more of a seasonal prep but it will allow me to save some money and buy more stuff
Oh yeah, you want the bearing block (socket) to be hard. You can apparently use rocks or bone too. There's a video on here about a bow drill *cheat*, but I haven't watched it yet
From what I've researched, a medium density is best for spindle and hearth. For the bow, it doesn't really matter, as long as it's hard and doesn't give when you put pressure on it or it will loosen...
Not sure if I said it last time I was on but she's pregnant lol. She's lost some weight and we are having a hard time putting more weight in her but she's happy.
My wife and kids love pickled okra. Especially with garlic
Yeah it smells awesome. So, would I be better trying to use oak? Maybe I'll try and do some research on other trees out here, but I'm not sure there are any others
How have you been miss lady?

My bow is about an arm and a half, the spindles are about 6 inches now...they all started around 9-10, but re-sharpening them made them a lot shorter lol
Yeah lol. That's all he does is sit by them and watch

We just got some more too. Hopefully we won't have to buy any and can start hatching them here. We got 5 black sex link and 3 more Rhode Island reds. The naked neck adult in there is blind,...
We didn't get any corn either. I think they grew to about 2.5-3 feet lol. Got a lot of green beans, tomatoes, various peppers and mustard mainly. Learned a good lesson too...do NOT plant cucumbers...
****!! This thing is kicking my ass. Started trying it last night. Got a good bow and my cordage is tight, doesn't slip. Got my hearth board and spindle made out of what I thought was pine, but now I...

Ah, books. The long lost art of reading lol. I may need to go to the bookstore. There are a few other topics of like to have hard copies of
Paul, do you have a picture or a video? I want to learn different trapping techniques
They are up to $5 here. I'm still selling mine for $2 though. I have good customers that always bring me cartons lll
I got a 50 pound bag of diatomaceous earth. When I clean the coop out and put new bedding in, I'll put a layer of it down, then the bedding and then more DE. under the roost, I'll do the same, but...
I've heard a lot of people talking about it lately. Hopefully we stay clear. We had a mite infestation but that's taken care of now.
That's the bad thing about being out here, there's a pretty standard going rate of $2 a dozen. (Store bought are about $2.50/dozen) so I'm hoping to break even on feed lol. But that's not including...
I've been using a light to supplement that some. Out of 7 hens, I average 3-4 eggs a day. Looking to have about 15 hens total, able to lay with a couple rotating into peak laying. Hopefully I can...
It definitely helps show the pecking order. It was relatively cheap and extremely easy too. Plus, with the frame, it's easy to move and clean under.
