    I'll have to call my Mom tomorrow and see what's going on in her area. She's in NE Ohio. I know she has rain catch barrels tho.

    This article does a good job of detailing the causes. It's not pollution from homeowners causing it. The major contributor as pollution goes would be farming, mostly what and how the farm land in the area is being utilized. There are other contributing factors as well.     I like Berkey, but this system is great too. Compact and uses 5 or 6 gallon buckets as the reservoirs. Can be reverse flushed for continued use.

    reverse flush im assuming is just pouring water into the drainage to wash out the extra crud?
