    Here is Meriwether Lewis’ packing list for his expedition (1804) :

    By all means, read "Undaunted Courage" by Ambrose.

    He took some literary license, I realize, and some of his descriptions of techniques are less than accurate, but for the most part he uses the actual journal entries to describe the trek.
    Very interesting, and should be required reading for all the Jeremiah Johnson Bugout To The Wilderness Boys.
    I fear the nation I loved may be gone. The best I hope for now is to die with honor in the coming civil war, and that my grandchildren be spared the pain of a tyrannical government.
