Thread: Farting around with leather.

    Farting around with leather.

Dug out some leather tools and leather scraps my dad had and figured I'd take a stab at making some knife sheaths and gun holsters.

Nope never messed with leather much before so don't expect much from a novice.

Yep chrome tanned leather doesn't tool for crap as can be seen by the weakness of my deer stamp.

And yup first crack at the saddle stitch is pretty ruff but strong and functional so who cares right?

Sheath number 2 is a little better. Tried some double knot lacing on this one.

And slapped together a little pocket knife sleeve to keep my new Case yellow peanut from getting scratched up while in my pocket with other stuff.

Replacing the old original sheath seen next to the one in progress.

And learned chrome tanned leather doesn't wet mold for beans either. But it works and its what I had on hand.

The little sleeve for the peanut knife is made from a tiny piece of veg tanned that was in the scrap pile.

So I bought a hunk of Veg tanned belly to play with.

And proceeded to make a pattern for my old Colt Mark IV Government .380 that you cannot find or buy a holster for.

Cut out the pattern from the veg tanned belly. First test fit yeah looks like it will work.

Glued it up and stitched it. Getting ready to wet mold it for a true custom fit.

That looks like the same Case Peanut I have. Dad gave it to me for a Birthday years ago. It looks cool in a sheath.

It is a case yellow peanut. I love that thing. My Ole lady got that for me this year for Christmas. Quality knife! Perfect for the pocket.

She found me an really old yellow peanut at a garage sale a few years back for 2 bucks but I wont carry it because its soooooo old and worth a few bucks now.
