Trip to an Urgent Care New doctor Today

Last week I noticed some blood in my sock and one of my toes was bleeding. I cleaned the wound (a blister?) and wrapped it up with some gauze and neosporin.

A day or two later I didn't see any improvement and my foot was beginning to swell. Again, idiot that I am, I continued to home treat the wound and finally this am my toe was red-hot and "angry". I was spreading some mulch and finished was I was doing, got a shower, cleaned the wound again and headed out to find an Urgent Care Facility that was open.

Pulled into one and filled out the paper work (o-phuckin-bamacare where they were more interested in my SS#) and finally got escorted back to the exam room.

Nurse comes in and asks me the same questions that I put on the paperwork and then doc comes in. I pull off my shoes and socks and doc says, Mr Slippy, that toe looks angry! You should have come to see me a week ago!

"Thanks for the lecture doc, but what can you do?" He gives me a shot in the ass, prescribes some antibiotics and some anti-biotic cream and sends me on my way. But I stop to ask him, whats up with the NO CELLPHONE in the EXAM ROOM sign? He gets all serious and tells me that damn near everyone is on thier cellphone and most are trying to video him to sue him for malpractice.

He goes on to say that I am one of the only people this week NOT to have a phone in my hand!

I told him, "start wearing a freakin gun on your hip and you might put an end to this nonsense". He laughs and says his 1911 is in his office. My brain is now in "Go Ahead and Say it Slippy-Mode" so I lift my shirt to show him my SW M&P Shield in my belly-band. "That's OK, I got us covered Doc"! I say...

He smiled and said come on back anytime and then shook my hand. I swore I heard him say..."the World done gone crazy" as I left his office!

    2 Morals of the story;

Do not let a small cut or injury go un treated

    And

Befriend all Like minded doctors that you can!

Had my son, his Dr. friend and the Dr's daughter over for a "lets spend some money today, . . . burning ammo" type of good day.

Daugher is a really sweet almost 15 yr old who had never shot a pistol before (that dad knew about).

After my son gave her some instructions and turned her loose, . . . I'd sure as heck hope she never shoots at me.

All in all we cranked out 30 to 90 rounds out of each of about a dozen guns, . . . all pistols, . . . and had a ball.

Then went inside (85 outside in the sun) for hamburgers on the grill.

Gonna do long guns and shotty's next.

    He's my kind of Doc, . . .

    May God bless,
    Dwight

Glad you are on the mend Slip!

About 4 weeks ago, our daughter and grandson came down for a visit. Of course, grandson had a mild cold which both Mrs Inor and I caught, It was not a bad cold and both Mrs Inor and I were over the cold part in a few days. But with me, it left behind a really persistent sinus infection. The sinus infection was not horrible and did not affect my ability to do my day-to-day tasks. But it left me with a mild to medium headache every morning when I woke and a constant runny nose. The worst was the snot that was running down my throat tasted like a moldy basement!

My body was fighting (and winning) the infection. But last weekend I finally gave up on my body's slow progress and ordered a bottle of 250Mg Amoxicillin Fish-Mox. I have been doing 1 250 Mg capsule, 3 times per day and the after 3 days the result is profound. According to most of the experts, an adult can easily handle 500 Mg, 3 times per day without worry. I am planning on continuing this regiment for at least a total of 10 days.

I keep the fish mox around for very very occasional use too...

    *****UPDATE*****

After my visit to the Urgent Care I made an appointment to see an Orthopedic Surgeon/Podiatrist (who knew they existed?). I have Osteo-arthritis in that foot and ankle and wanted to make sure all was well, and the Anti-biotics were not working as fast as I wanted them to and my foot was still swollen. She had a real concern with the infection especially since the toe was on the same leg as my Total Knee Replacement. She did not want the infection to get into the bone. So after the usual fighting with my insurance company, I get an MRI to determine if the infection is in the bone.

Just got back from seeing the doc and hallelujah! No bone infection. For the first time she drops the word "amputation" on me! HA!

She comes right out and says, "Slip", (she doesn't even call me Mr Slippy, just Slip, she's a sassy little MD!) so she says "Slip, Good news, we don't have to amputate your toe!"

"Yes Doc Sunshine, that is good news, anything else?

"Yep", she says, "I'm going to increase your anti-biotics and send you to a Wound Care Specialist!"

"Hoo-Freakin-Yay" I replied, "what is a darn wound care specialist and what makes that doc any better than you? Heck, you're a Orthopedic Surgeon PLUS A Podiatrist? I think you've got somebody with "Wound Care" at the end of their name trumped!"

She laughed, patted me on my foot and said she'll set it up and to get back with her in a couple of weeks....out the door she went. So now I'm waiting on some Wound Care Specialist to call me back...on a good note, it looks like I met my deductible.
