Bill to allow deer baiting during hunting season clears Michigan House committee

Michigan hunters could bait deer during hunting season again under legislation that cleared a House Committee Tuesday.

Ten days before firearm deer hunting season begins in Michigan, the House Government Operations Committee voted 3-2 to report legislation that would let people feed deer and elk unrestricted, and bait during regular hunting season.

The proposal is in response to regulations approved by the Natural Resources Commission for hunting seasons in an effort to curtail chronic wasting disease among deer populations.

Michigan House votes to OK deer baiting during hunting season

The Michigan House approved legislation to let hunters bait deer during hunting season Tuesday - although the proposal likely won’t impact the current bans in place this year.

Ten days before firearm deer hunting season begins in Michigan, the House voted 57-49 on House Bill 4687, legislation that would let people feed deer and elk unrestricted and bait during regular hunting season.

The proposal is in response to baiting and feeding bans in the entire Lower Peninsula and parts of the Upper Peninsula approved by the Natural Resources Commission in an attempt to curtail chronic wasting disease among deer populations.

That Corn tat I spread out is for STARVING SQUIRRELS only. I better not catch any deer eating it, because that would be against the law, I'm here with my scoped 308 to protect that corn from them damn deer.

You guys made great progress. Out here, the G&F dept. and the State legislators listen to the Outfitters and Ranchers constant whine.
