Very true, but I would also accept this:
The Left needs a distraction and a scapegoat to obscure things like rising food prices and utilities. They will be scapegoating every non-leftist, and those who are not %100 lockstep with them, and unfortunately the majority (at least half) of the public will accept the BS as fact. The left is going after Brett Kavanaugh again.....wth?
People like us who put food aside for emergencies will be blamed for the shortages (this has been done in the past) but this time it may get violent. We are already seeing small shortages of non-critical items, what happens when it isn't chips but is something like no milk in the store or a lack of the easy to make, bad for you, processed food?

I am always amazed at people who say it can't happen again. It could never happen. They ignore history and chose to believe man has evolved passed mans base instincts for violence, war, power, and control. Yet, here we are. Hitler was right, people are stupid and have short memories.

I believe it will ALWAYS happen again. Not that it is inevitable, but when it comes to things like government, it attracts the psychopaths, the narcissists . . . those who crave power and control, so we need to remain vigilante.
The founding fathers knew this, which is why they left us the tools (the 1st and 2nd Amendment) to fix the problem as needed. The problem we are facing now is much the problem our founding fathers faced: when do we act?
Many of us on here have seen what war does to a city/country, and that is a hard decision to make, a decision that could mean ending our lives and that of our children, even if we are right/legal/Constitutional in the decision.
In the coming five to ten years we are all going to have choices to make, and they won't be fun ones.

I say five to ten years, starting at 2020. So we're about a year or two in.
People won't notice the shortages at first, or will dismiss them as being caused by other things. When they start to notice, most will cry "GOVERNMENT, PLEASE SAVE US!" (this includes most Republicans) and government will provide a placebo to them for a little while; it will be in the form of UBI or maybe an advance on the EITC as we are seeing.
This will push back people from getting violent, for a time. As more and more goods are scarce, people will start to question what is going. Tempers will flare, fights will start over item shortages etc. We have always seen this in disasters, but more resources could always come in from outside. Now, this won't be a possibliity. No resources will be coming from other states to assist, because all states will be in the same situation.
As the anger spreads, the violence will get significantly worse. You will see bands or armed civilians forming. Some will be protecting farms/producers, some will be taking those goods; both will probably be formed of good people desperately trying to survive. We may even see people on this board on both sides of that conflict, and both will be morally right.
On top of that the police will be desperately trying to hold the tide against these groups along with the growing PC/SJW culture of AntiFa/BLM who will be rioting for Socialism/Communism. This will put the police in the crosshairs of every single armed group; they will be slaughtered, right or wrong.
I could probably write a whole thread on this topic, and I may have at one point and don't remember. Unfortunately I'm very good at 'wargaming,' situations like this and the more information I have, the better I get. This was one of my jobs in Baghdad.

The preceeding on this page has been some of the most cogent and precient discussion I've seen on a forum.
Problem is, too many want to deal with the commies with logic and politeness. Sigh...
